We wanted a cheap ferry crossing , and this one for the price (£39 return) was very good , other reviewers complain of late sailings , but ours were punctual to the minute .
The large ships are comfy and not busy in the winter , so you can spread out and relax , it is true that Dunkerque port is a dump , but you are only passing through so who cares ?

“Great value, but it takes time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

We've used this company before when it was Norfolkline. The boats are modern and usually clean. Dunkerque is very handy for Belgium and Holland for our trip to Center Parcs, and I would rather spend 45 minutes extra on the ferry compared to Calais than be in the car longer coming from Calais if you are going that way.
Outbound last Sunday afternoon was great, very quiet on board, and had a great view at the front of the boat. Coming back Friday, staff stopped people sitting in this area unless they purchased a meal at the restaurant. That was a bit annoying. I can see their point, but there were empty seats in this area and still were later on.
Great web offer code 5 day return deal of £48 return plus small charge for a debit card, so you cannot grumble with that.
There is alot of waiting around however when we are told to get there a good hour or so before departure, plus extra time for customs etc, when it still appears to take some time to load and unload, that really eats into your time and day. This is on top of the 2 hour crossing time. Perhaps they could work on that? Basic facilities at either port which could be an issue if there are delays but overall good value for money compared to the tunnel and would use again.

“frequent crosser dave from bolton”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Having sailed on most ferries and routes to the continent and crossing 8-10 times a year i took advantage of multi trip offer and find Norfolk Line to be almost perfect. Good regular sailings usually on time but several times sat outside dover waiting to enter harbour. The staff always friendly and helpful, the selfservice restaurant reasonably priced meals with an exellent full english breakfast. Only complaint is non diners hogging the comfortable seats whilst you are being served at the counter not so much the fault N/L more some selfish passengers. looking forward to the new offer in place of multitrip offer. Well done Norfolk Line

“Never again”

I had forgotten how slow the checkin is with dfds and once again today despite arriving 45 minutes prior I got stopped by customs then spent 30m queuing to check in. There really is no excuse these days for this to taker so long given that they have our details in advance. Much much slower than the others, maybe that's why they do cheap offers to fill up.

“Offers great value”

Planning for a continental trip invariably begs the question "how to cross the Channel" - and DFDS (formerly Norfolk Line) answers this well.

Crossings every 2 hours on nice, clean, new ships, crewed by friendly and attentive staff. The loadings at Dover and Dunkirk are both hassle-free (but I do agree with other reviews that Dunkirk port isn't that well appointed)

On-board catering is very good and fairly priced. The shop offers the usual variety of things one cannot live without.

For the best prices for fares, do check out the "special offers" section of the website. For day- and short stay trips you will not be disappointed.
