Place du Capitole was very busy on Saturday 6/7/13 with lots of weddings taking place , which meant we couldn't go inside but we spent some time in one of the resturants on the square before catching our flight home. A very lively buzzing city with lots of street music and entertainers .

If you have a few hours between your next train, take the metro or walk to Place Du Capitole, eat in one of the restaurants and enjoy the charm of the town.

Note: If you happen to visit during a holiday, take the Le Petit Train. The route starts from Place Du Capitole and navigates around the town's attraction in 45 minutes. Also, if you are a fan of The Little Prince, check Hotel Le Grand Balcon, Antoine Saint du Exupery's room can be viewed for free (in case it is not booked).

A range of places to eat and drink, ranging from fancy restaurants to McDs, make this a lively Square at night time, with the lit up City Hall building an imprressive sight. There was a great Saturday morning market and a range of shopping streets leading from the square.

Definitely recommend a visit to the Salle Des Illustres in the Place du Capitole. The interior is painted and the visit is free. How much time do you need to visit the Place du Capitole? You could probably enjoy the interior in 30-45 minutes. I love the paintings by Henri Martin, showing the four seasons and the walk along the river in Toulouse. The rest of the paintings are beautiful also.

Outside is a large square where they sometimes hold markets and on the other side is the Donjon/tourist office, in a shady square. St. Sernin and the Jacobins are a short walk from here.

The town hall and opera house glow pink and white on one side of the square. You sit in a cafe on the other side and enjoy the view and watch the world go by - everyone passes - tourists with cameras, pilgrims with their cockle shells and staffs, local primary school classes on visits to see their heritage, students going to and from university, and just the ordinary people of the town going about their daily life.
