“Friendly owner and cat”
Reviewed March 23, 2010

We booked 3 nights, trusting the reviews on here. We were not disappointed. It was a few yards from the airport shuttle bus. The entrance was a bit under-whelming - could do with a coat of paint, but the hotel was excellent.
Even though it was only mid-morning our room was available in 5 minutes. It was on the 2nd floor, up the windy stairs. It was large, with a light bathroom. Heliot, the cat, miaowed to be let in, checked us out, explored our luggage, and then had to be coaxed out again.
The hotel was a few minutes walk from the centre. There were loads of street drinkers around the area, but this seemed to be the norm for Toulouse. We saw a few 'ladies of the night 'in the streets behind the hotel, but felt safe as no-one bothered us.
We chose to eat breakfast in the hotel - 7.50 euros. The breakfast room overlooked the small courtyard garden, and was ruled by Heliot, who seemed to be in charge! The croissants and bread were warm and fresh, and with the addition of coffee, juice, and apple compote, breakfast was OK.
Eating out in Toulouse was very good. Lovely creperie one night, Brasserie d'Opera another (18 euro menu was fantastic) and Hippopotamus at end of the road when it was raining.
We did the Airbus tour - shuttle bus to airport and taxi from there.
I haven't stayed in a 2 star hotel in France for years, but Hotel Heliot was charming. The owner was friendly and helpful, and always seemed to be on duty - he works 7 days a week. There was an air of 'tatty chic', very different from standard chain hotels. Bed was comfy, room was quiet, breakfast good, and cat tolerated us - what more could you ask?

While the hotel itself is nothing special, and the location is a little seedy, the welcome from the owners and their cat is fantastic. It feels like being a guest rather than just another customer.

The hotel is just a short walk from the centre of the city, and right near the airport shuttle stop. The only downside is the rough stretch between the hotel and the main SNCF station, but that is easily avoided. All in all, a fantastic place to stay in Toulouse.

All I needed for a business trip; close to airport shuttle and metro stations and right in the centre of things for restaurants etc. yet quietly tucked away for a peaceful nights rest. Staff very helpful, room clean and spacious and with free wifi. I was on third floor but carrying my case up and down once was not too onerous.

I stayed at the Heliot for one night only. The place has a lot of charm, with an odd mixture of hi-tech fingerprint front door lock, old squeaking spiral stairs, old-style rooms (cannot be much less than 4 meters to the ceiling) refurbished with new paint and furniture much more modern than the style of the room itself. In the fresh bathroom, the plumbers had switched the pipes for the shower, so to get warm water you had to turn the knob to cold: I find this kind of gets the essence of the place. The landlord is very nice and helpful, speaking excellent English and Spanish. His majestic cat escorted me to my room and honoured me by spending an hour on my chair. The free wireless worked very well. Breakfast is French standard: coffee, croissant, jam, juice, etc; fully OK. Despite its very central location, just a few steps from the metro station at Avenue Jean Jaurès and a few hundred meters from the SNCF station, the place is very quiet. I will quite surely come back, but if you are the kind of person who values perfection, standardization and anonymous rooms in hotel chains, this may not be for you.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights in July. The hotel is in a really central location and is really convenient for the centre of Toulouse, the train station and the Metro. The metro station is about 50 metres away from the hotel and the airport shuttle drops off just yards away from the hotel.

My twin room was very clean and comfortable. My only criticism would be that the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling and looked a little shabby.

For 7 euros you can get a lovely continental breakfast of warm pastries. The owner was really friendly and helpful.

For what I paid, the hotel represented very good money and I would definitely stay here again.

Found Hotel Heliot through tripadvisor and it was exactly as expected. The owner and his girlfriend were delightful-- though I suspect that they thought my dad and I were dating at first (barf). A regal black and white cat roams the ground floor, so beware if you have allergies.

The room was large and a bit shabby, but nice overall. It also had a balcony which looked out on the rue Heliot. During the morning a number of elderly hookers hung out in the neighborhood, but they were only interested in their work and the locals ignored them.

The owner is in the midst of renovations and I would love to see how they turn out. I enjoyed his personal touches throughout the hotel (like all the paintings and plants) and his friendly and helpful manner maximized our time in Toulouse.

We decided to get the breakfast which was the usual continental affair, with nice breads and pastries and a sweet swig of OJ. It was a bit pricey, but enjoyable to eat in the bright breakfast room.
