My overall experience in Toulouse was negative as I found the city to be dirty, unfriendly and genuinely unpleasant. Yet, the Hotel Heliot provided a nice refuge. The room was large and clean and the bathroom was also big for French standards. The hotel is well located near the city's main street. Yet, if you walk to the hotel from the direction of the train station you walk through an obviously unsafe area. Overall, I believe this to be a good hotel choice for the area as it is walking distance from all major sites as well as countless local bars and restaurants. I was quite disappointed that I was not even partially refunded for a night I was unable to stay in the hotel because of the French Train strike. I was also quite annoyed at the level of noise outside the hotel, this was of course no fault of the Hotel Heliot but it is obviously located in an area that is unconcerned about screaming at 4:00 am.
