I've been several times to this place. There is a permanent part and some expositions turning over regularly. I enjoy going there because it is often interesting, even if you don't like the pieces of art. It is creative, surprising. This is not a huge museum but you can see original works. Sometimes (1st sunday of everymonth I think) it is free, but whatever, it always remains cheap.
I can't say anything on the content because it depends a lot of the exposition, but this is exactly what I like in this nice warm-feeling museum: being surprised.

I understand that people may be disappointed by this Museum of Modern Art, especially if they are only interested in the art itself , or are used to visiting bigger places like the MOMA...but maybe they ought to see it from a different perspective. I often take teens there as they can see and do different things, vist, relax, eat a pic-nic in the large, pleasant park (not many trees but there is a small "water garden" with a wooden miniature bridge that's cool and pleasant in the dreadfully hot season) walled on one side by an impressive rampart which dates back to the Comtes de Toulouse..(There are also activities for younger children )Don't miss the fantastic terrace of long stone steps that overlooks the river and is perfect for taking photos. A steel foot bridge will enable you to walk directly over the river for even better pics.As the Abbattoir is on the west bank /non- touristic side of the Garonne but only a few minutes ' walk from the St Cyprien tube station on the A-line, it's a perfect visit for cooling it off after a French lunch. The building used to be a slaughterhouse. You can walk outside the premises, On the outside walls there are works after Fernand Léger. The Picasso corrida curtain is only on show half of the year. A lovely visit for lovers or a family , depending on the weather. As for the museum, once you get in the mood, it might surprise you. the volumes are impressive. i like the changing lights best. Go on a free Sunday morning if you can, ithe fee is high (6$)..the restaurant outside opens in the season. Give the Abattoirs a try , away from the Capitole crowd!!

If the architecture of the building itself is quite interesting the art on display was disappointing. From the current "Chefs-d'œuvre modernes et contemporains" the only outstanding piece was the colossal curtain painted by Picasso, which suits the space it stands in. The rest was unmemorable and it felt that the entrance fee was quite extortionate for what you got out of it, compared to other museums in Toulouse itself and compared to other modern art museums in general. Its a shame really as the space could lend itself to more spectacular display of art.
