“Museum of sheer delight”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

For me and my femme, this was without a doubt, the most important museum in Toulouse. You can feel the bones of the building, the magnificent Hotel Assezat, dating 1555,whilst you do the circuit in the nearby streets.. This magnificent edifice houses acollection that spans five centuries of art from the Renaisance to the late 19th century.
Room after room is filled with art- treasure candy. Devote at least three hours to pleasantly amble, sit and communicate with the past in a superb setting.
Walk the outside pasage between the wings of the building to observe the lovely aspects of the building, sky and clouds.
When done, walk down to the river and lunch in the nearby eateries. Magic place

Set in a fine Hôtel, this collection is of the highest quality, especially the roomfull of Bonnard near the end of the tour. Unmissable!

“Collection worth seeing”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

I found this collection worth seeing, although a bit disappointing. The ambiance is unfriendly, however there are some interesting pieces, but overcrowded with less interesting stuff.

“Excellent private collection”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

Another amazing private collection shown in a 'domestic' setting like the Jacquemart-Andre in Paris and the Doria Pamphilj in Rome. The house is a stunning merchant's house from the days when Toulouse's wealth was built on on the textile and dying trade. The collection is beautifully displayed, and although not all of the pieces are of the first order, there are some stunning gems in the collection. Three lovely Cranachs including the beautiful 'Venus and Cupid with the honeycomb' with Venus naked apart from a wonderful red hat and necklace. A whole room full of Bonnards. Some stunning Renoirs.
