You feel the magnetic attraction as soon as you spy the soaring spire and unusual octagonal tower from a distance. This is an extraordinary edifice, beautifully preserved and presented. Nothing, but the best, for the Counts of Toulouse, whose tombs are finely exhibited.
Walk inside, through the nave and your entire attention is drawn to the delicate pillars that shield the tomb of St. Sernin ,beneath alovely canopy. This is gob-smackin awesome.
The majestic flow includes the delicate carvings along the walls, astounds the senses.

Returning to Toulouse means seeing St. Sernin again. We enjoy visiting the main church and also the side alters. We've also gone downstairs and visited the catacombs, which are worth the time. The church has a decent shop. On weekends, there are markets surrounding the church.

thjere is nothing to dislike in this uplifting building which is a must for anyone visiting Toulouse. The ambulatory and crypt with extraordinary reliquaries are worth a look.

Visited during the day after a leisurely walk along the Canal du Midi.

If you are in the heart of Toulouse, take the 10 mins (or half an hour) to enjoy the ambience of a UNESCO listed site (as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France).

Don't forget to enjoy the external construction which is mostly brick.

I've read the good & bad reviews, but seriously it's got to be on your 'must visit if in Toulouse'.

We got to this site after the doors had closed, and so first enjoyed the architecture from the outside, in the evening light. Then, we found it quite impressive, particularly the octagonal tower. We went back the next morning to see the interior, and honestly didn't find it worth the trip - it's beautiful, but there wasn't anything that distinguished the interior from many, many old European churches.

Bottom line: put it on a walking tour, but don't make a trip just to see the interior.
