“Day trip to Albi”
Reviewed June 14, 2012

I really enjoyed the trip. As a solo traveller I was tossing up whether to hire a car to get to Albi from Toulouse, or try for a day trip by train. Then luckily I found Ophorus when I asked at the Toulouse Tourist centre. It was so good to sit back and enjoy the drive, plus share the experience with 4 other people. Stephanie was great, giving us lots of interesting information, guiding us through interesting streets, then letting us free to explore Toulouse-Lautrec museum. Again I was glad that I wasn't the driver when we went to Cordes-sur-Ciel. It is a picture perfect place with wonderful panoramas of the countryside. I was so impressed that I looked for Ophorus when I went go to Rocamadour. Thank you Ophorus.

“Fantastic tours from Toulouse”
Reviewed May 19, 2012

We took two tours with Ophorus in Toulouse. Both were phenomenal.

The first tour was a full day tour of Lourdes. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Pierrick, our tour guide, was absolutely wonderful. He was knowledgeable of all the historic and religious highlights of the area. Lourdes is located in a valley at the base of the Pyrenees and it very picturesque. We saw the grotto and drank the water from the area where you can fill your bottles to take home. The water was cold and refreshing as the spring is sourced from the mountain snow melt. This was a very holy and spiritual place. Pierrick took us to buy bottles to fill and to a fantastic Italian cafe for lunch. After lunch we continued to the Boly Mill where St. Bernadette lived the first ten years of her life. We even had time to visit Chateau Fort at the top of the city which is steeped in history dating back to Charlemagne. The view is spectacular. During the drive to and from Lourdes, Pierrick kept us happy and amused. This was a marvelous day.

Our second tour was an afternoon visit to Carcassonne with Stephanie. She is an unbelievable guide. We have taken many tours over the years and she was one of the most knowledgeable people we have ever encountered. Her presentation on the history of the region, the Albigensian Crusade and Carcassonne was a true insight into the subject. We learned so much from her and were amazed at the city of Carcassonne. You need to experience the city as it is breathtaking. The medieval walls and towers, the old streets, the Basilica of St. Nazaire and the view of the new city and countryside have to be seen. This was a brilliant tour.

We will definitely take another Ophorus tour if we visit central or southern France. These are well worth the investment in the information you glean from them. These areas need an explanation as they are not heavily visited.

“Albi Visit, Cordes sur Ciel Visit & Gaillac Wine Tasting”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

Our guide Stephanie arrived on time. Five people for the 8 hour tour. We departed Toulouse in a very nice van and traveled to Albi to visit the church, the Letrac museum and a nice walk through the city. Then off to Cordes sur Ciel and then wine tasting in Gaillac. Throughout the day we were afforded insights and side information you cannot find published. Stephanie always went out of her way to give us more than the basic tour and the photos and memories will last forever. Great experience at a reasonable price.

“Albi, Carcassone, Cordes en Ciel, Gaillac”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

Perfect.
Simply perfect.
We took the tour 2 days in a row during our stop over in Toulouse.
The 1st day to Albi, Cordes and Gaillac in a SUV Mercedes with 2 other couples from Australia, the 2nd day to Carcassone just alone with the same guide Anne.
Anne was perfect both in English and French.
We recommend Ophorus Toulouse Sightseeing Day Tours highly.

“Left a lot to be desired.”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

If you just need a driver for the day, book this. We thought we would get a history of the area and a fun and enthusiastic driver, but what we got was merely a van ride and drop off at canned tourist spots. Our driver was knowledgeable, when asked, about the area, but was not offering anything unless we came up with the questions. Maybe our driver was just having a bad day, as we all are allowed, but the most we got was terse answers to our questions and reminders to be at "X" on time in order for her to pick us up and take us to our next stop. We didn't even have time to eat lunch, which is half of the fun of traveling in France! I am usually very agreeable in these reviews, but I feel that this "private tour" was very misrepresented and very over priced for what my husband and I and our visiting family actually received...we even had to pay for the group tours once we were dropped off. Again, if you want a driver that takes you to towns where you can get a tour (that, again, you pay for) and who answers a few questions, then don't hesitate to hire Orphorus for a private tour.

ophorus, Manager at Ophorus Toulouse Sightseeing Day Tours, responded to this review, April 11, 2012
Bonjour,
Thank you for having sent a review concerning our Toulouse sightseeing tours as it helps us to improve our services and better understand travelers needs. I wish to apologize concerning the fact that your guide that day was not up to your expectations.
I do say "Guide" as unlike many other tour companies all our drivers are first and foremost accredited tour guides that have gone through studies and a difficult exam that includes many different subjects like Art History, History, Geography, Politics and Anne is certainly one of our most liked and knowledgeable guides as mentioned by other reviewers on this site.
Your tour on that day headed to the caves of Roquefort (the blue cheese) and for a visit and wine tasting session in Gaillac. You had chosen to do these two visits and we organized this private tour based on your requirements. This was a long 9h tour. More than 5 1/2 hours were in fact driving time through small countryside roads of France, Roquefort being located in a remote part of the region. On that day tour, because of the distances, your guide became more a driver and as driver one needs to keep concentrated especially on these small roads and our priority while driving is SAFETY - this is company policy. To both drive and give out commentaries at the same time is something only a very few number of persons are able to do.
Also, concerning both visits, and unfortunately for the guide, her role during these was very limited as they were handled by 'local' guides. Because of this, I fully understand that it could feel as if you only had a driver with you and that you did not benefit from the knowledge your guide could have passed on to you and your family on that particular tour.
Finally, concerning payment for entrance fees, we never include any entrance fees to monuments, museums, attractions in any of our private tours and this is clearly notified in our terms and conditions on our web site or on any e-mail we exchange with clients concerning private tours.
Regards,
Christophe Delpech
