Ibis Montauban

I have submitted previous reviews of this establishment which were largely complimentary but I have to say that my opinions have been re-appraised! The location is ideal for travellers through France en route to Spain. However, whilst the rooms are up to the standard of other Ibis Hotels with the usual facilities, I have to express doubts about its quality! We arranged a one night stay on our journey south to Spain and a two night stay (some two and a half weeks later) upon our return! Having driven some considerable distance before arriving on our journey south, I had hopes of a relaxing drink and meal before retiring early to my bed. Unfortunately, even though an official holiday period, the restaurant (without prior warning) was closed! We were fortunate to find a relatively local restaurant where we were well catered for - but overall, the cost of the Ibis hardly matched the level of care we received. Our breakfast the following morning was somewhat "basic" and unattractive! Having booked for a second stay I queried the situation and was assured that the restaurant's closure was a "one off" and wouldn't be repeated! In the event, when we returned upon our journey north later in the month - the restaurant was closed on our first night! Breakfast on our first morning had improved only slightly over our previous experience! Undaunted, we persevered for our second night and booked a meal in the restaurant. My wife was satisfied with her meal - but my own order of sirloin steak was almost inedible, and was so tough that I debated whether I should eat my shoe and wear the steak or risk my teeth and jaws! In short (and seriously) the meal was very poor and caused me to celebrate the previous closures! All in all a very depressing and disappointing experience - which will not be repeated! As a further note, whilst some staff at the Ibis were pleasant and attentive, many more were obviously disinterested and lacking in vitality. At both breakfast periods on our return visit, it appeared that the centre of all staff activity and gossip was the reception area - whilst no-one paid particular attention to the breakfast room or the state of items available. As said, a very disappointing experience! Not recommended - but a nearby F1 establishment would appear to be a better and cheaper alternative!

Room Tip: Perhaps consideration of the nearby F1. would prove a better option than staying at the Ibis (though...

This hotel is ideally situated for travel down through France is it is two minutes from the motorway.

Breakfast was typically Ibis and ok, dinner not so good, there were complaints
from an adjacent table about cold food Ibis have always been very good but now are starting to be more expensive in comparison to other similar hotels.

My husband And I have previously been mystery inspectors for the Sun Hotel group in South Africa for a few years.

Stayed for 7 nights, nothing to really complain about. OK for the price. The typical old school IBIS look - somewhat worn but clean. Staff is friendly and cooperative. Rather quiet even though close to the motorway.

Lovely setting in a ‘forest’ - just off the highway.
Building from the outside looks welcoming.
Check -in was easy and friendly.

Booked two rooms and these were given next to each other.

Free wi-fi and free parking.

Usual ibis room - comfortable bed. Shower warm and big enough to move around in (unlike many!)
Short drive into ‘old’ Montauban where there is an abundance of eateries.

Enjoyed our stay.

Only downfall, as with all Ibis hotels - no tea / coffee making facilities.

Needed an easy to get to stay over after driving up from Barcelona and this was perfect! Reserved over the phone from U.S. Hotel manager was very pleasant, our room for 3 was clean and comfortable. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was sufficient, the buffet breakfast was quite good. For what we wanted, the Ibis served us very well.

A really good location for a stop over driving north or south through France. Just off the motorway with easy access and free parking. Rooms are typical Ibis no frills, but clean, and all you need for a stop over. Breakfast was good. Reception was pleasant, helpful and welcoming.

Room Tip: The motorway is fairly close...ask for a quiet room at the back or the side.

We used this hotel for a one night stopover whilst travelling through the area. It was easy to find (just off the 20) and though very close to the highway was reasonably quiet. The hotel complex is enclosed and secure and backs on to pleasant and quiet countryside! The staff were at all times attentive and professional. Some spoke in very good English whilst others were less able - but as we were in France it seemed reasonable for us to make the effort to communicate - with sign language if necessary. All communications were conducted with good grace and humour! The rooms were small but pleasant and we had no complaints about cleanliness or any facilities provided. The addition of the pool is noteworthy and will be considered alongside other advantages when we next travel the area. We were not at all disappointed by the quality or value of the restaurant. We took dinner and the buffet breakfast and whilst both menu's were "simple and straightforward" we had no complaints. Definitely a venue we will utilize in the future.
