There are quite a number of restaurants to choose from in Cordes itself, but unfortunately many aim merely to extract money from the tourists without making any effort. There are some exceptions and the Terrasse sur Ciel has always provided great meals in the excellent location. It aims to provide simple French fare that is both tasty and reasonably priced. A quick look at some of the photos from the terrace cannot really prepare you for how spectacular the view is. There are three to four tables right on the edge of the view that are well worth getting if you can. The terrace is pleasant and sheltered from both sun and wind so you can really soak up the view as you enjoy your meal.
They usually start you with an aperitif, spiced wine being a particular favourite. The selection is typical of this region, duck in at least two of the dishes, entrecote, lamb, and fish. The vegetables are plentiful and the starters larger than you really need. I often have the jambon and melon or one of the salads with fresh local tomatoes and local goats cheese, delicious. The house red wine (Gaillac) is very drinkable, you can splash out a bit more on the half bottles or full bottles but unless you spend a lot more I really don’t think you would notice the difference. Desserts are generous and very tasty.
The staff are very friendly, most speak English, and the service was attentive and fast.
This is a good restaurant to bring a group of friends and soak up the evening sun till sunset. It’s also good for couples as the terrace, being open, is quiet allowing conversation, and devoid of the noise you get inside a building.
