After a five day stay in Toulouse, we traveled to Cahors to taste some Malbecs and to start a road trip in that historic region of France. With minor trepidation, we booked a room at Hotel Terminus, which was very conveniently located but we thought might be too close to the train station. Close it is, but in no way did this negatively affect our experience. The hotel is a delightful small town, old time, high quality establishment. Our room was very pleasant; the staff were extremely helpful; the restaurant was excellent; the distance to the old city was negligible, even though the streets of the "new town" were not so lovely to walk through. I would certainly stay at Hotel Terminus again and would strongly recommend it to others.

We just spent two nights at the hotel. We chose it because of reviews we had read and like many others we were pleased we did. The location near the train station and our rental car location made it very convenient. We loved the linens and towels, the toiletries, free and reliable wifi in the room. What stood out for us was the help and friendliness of the staff including room service and an impromptu picnic lunch. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was a delicious and delightful experience. In short, it was just what you would want in a French countryside hotel.
.

Room Tip: We were perfectly happy with room 20/3rd floor.

This hotel could be a real treasure if only it was maintained! Our room on the frontside had a wooden floor and was nice (could have been cleaner), but so noisy (trainstation and a busy road in front) that we asked for one at the backside. That one was €10 more expensive and a disappointment: carpet, sofa and bedspread full of stains, burningmarks above the wall lights, no shower curtain, spiderwebs on the ceiling,...
Breakfast very expensive and basic, not enough parkingspace for all customers, feral gardens,...
we will never return there!

Thank goodness France is a place that has not yet been completely overrun by bland hotels. We found perfect French charm, courtesy and self-confidence here; and were relieved not to be irked by unnecessary ostentation and mid-Atlantic vulgarity. The hotel is perfectly placed for the station, of course; but in spite of that, we found that it is reasonably quiet during the hours of darkness. Amongst the excellencies, we were glad to note that the owners still provide cotton sheets and pillowcases, not polyester ones.

We stayed one night at Hotel Terminus because we had a problem with electricity in our rental home and my husband and I both loved it! The beds were super comfortable, the room and bathroom clean, the night quiet (apart from some announcements early in the morning from the nearby train station) and the breakfast (which we took outside on the terrace) plentiful and tasty. The service was graceful and kind and this hotel also has a very good restaurant which we visited a few years ago and enjoyed very much. Hotel Terminus is not super cheap, but worth every cent.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floors have a more modern design

To be honest, "Station Hotel" doesn't fill your heart with joy, and it's true the hotel is just across the road from the SNCF station in Cahors which makes it perfect for a stopover on the way South. There's an Avis car hire branch about 100 metres down the road. However, once we'd parked off-road in the small car park and said hello to the hotel cat we realized it was rather a special place. I'd booked a room on the strength of the private terrace which I thought would be fun. Our room on the top floor (there's a lift) was spacious with comfortable if rather traditional furniture. A large and comfortable bed, plenty of room to unpack and a decent serviceable writing desk for the laptop. Wifi was free and worked well. The bathroom and toilet were equally spacious and well appointed with abundant towels and treats. The terrace gave an elevated view of the town including the railway, but we had no problem with noise either from the road or the railway itself.

The hotel is quite unique, and a tour of the grand staircase and corridors is real worthwhile as there are original paintings and drawings everywhere. It's a quirky, well informed and very personal selection by someone who understands and loves art. Our room was very clean and comfortable and we were warmly welcomed by an English speaking receptionist - possibly the owner - when we arrived.

But the decor of the bar and the restaurant is wonderful. Rather than a modern interior designer's take on Art Deco, this looked authentic and original.

The Restaurant, which is part of the hotel but seems to be run as a separate business, is an absolute treasure. The service seems to belong to the era of the hotel's great days. I asked for a wine list and was handed a huge manual by a wonderfully enthusiastic sommelier. It was actually exciting to read it 'though we couldn't afford any of the really expensive wines. But there was no sniffiness or condescension about the experience, and we planned meal and wine with his help. The meal was one of the best we ate in France, with everything cooked and prepared beautifully from first class ingredients. The separate cheese course of Rocamadour cheese on a thin slice of walnut bread was memorable. You wouldn't think a goats' cheese could taste so good. It was a proper foodie adventure, and (if we could afford it) we'd go back for a week! The meal cost €150 - the same as the room, but it was a special treat and I'd recommend it without hesitation.

This hotel was a very nice experience - charming typically French and very good value for money. Charming staff and nice big rooms and the most wondefull large bathroom with an old fashioned bath tub - great place - and even a great resturant with delicious food. Highly recommendable.
