Hostellerie Saint-Antoine
Ranked #11 of 26 Hotels in Albi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 26, 2010

The Saint-Antoine is an elegant town hotel where I took a bright and nicely furnished room giving onto the rear garden. Which, despite the view partially giving onto a flat rooftop, air conditioning units and another wall of the hotel, seems worthwhile compared to one on the front which would only have a dull view of the buildings across the narrow street.
I did not take breakfast at the Saint-Antoine as I had read many reviews criticizing its value for money. On the nearby Place du Vigan many brasseries and bars serve a continental one and I took a decent one at the classy Poutie which saves more than 10 Euros compared to the hotel price.
The hotel does not have a dinner restaurant so you have to eat out anyhow in one of the many places easily found in the city centre. I had an excellent gourmet meal at the Esprit du Vin, however go there with an open mind and prepared for the unknown.

My partner and I spent two nights at this hotel last week. We liked it very much. It is a short walk from the town center, but this is an advantage because it is quiet and away from the throng of tourists. We had reserved the "Folie Gastronomique" special offer, which included a "preference junior suite"--a well appointed room, freshly decorated in a tasteful manner, looking out onto the lovely shady garden. (We did not see the standard rooms, which are no doubt smaller than ours.) The reservation included a tasting-menu dinner at Restaurant l'Epicurien, which was excellent--so good in fact, and so attractive, that we went back for a lunch on our third day. In our explorations, we decided it was the best restaurant in Albi. The staff at the hotel were uniformly helpful and friendly. It is not exactly a bargain, but we found it well worth the price, and will stay there again if we return to Albi.

This 4 star hotel did not deserve more than 2 stars. What a huge disappointment! The air conditioner blew room temperature air; thankfully the window did open to allow the hot and humid air to come in. The tiny guest room #34 was an afterthought in this hotel with old furniture and beat-up Ikea-style closets. They did provide nice toiletry items in the bath. There was a wheelchair left in front of our room #34 during our entire stay there. Seems like a serious fire hazard to me! Also, this hotel caters to tourist groups........ The hotel does have a restaurant that they seem to only open up for tour groups. Breakfast is an additional charge. They do offer a pay parking lot behind the hotel ~ which was easy to access and very nice.

Location is several blocks from Albi's Old Town. Not a bad walk, but I would have preferred staying within the Old Town. The Old Town of Albi is as charming as can be!

Lunch at Le Pappilon was outstanding!!! I wish that we could have eaten dinner there, but they were closed the night we were in town.

Be sure to visit Albi! But consider staying somewhere else ~ preferably in the Old Town.

This is a perfectly nice place to stay at, clean with bright decoration. The staff are very sweet and helpful. On the whole, it was a good experience but in my opinion, the rooms are overpriced.

My wife and I spent one night at this hotel on a recent (September) trip through SW France. We were extremely pleased with our experience. Our room with shower was large, quiet, modern and impeccably clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel has secure parking behind it (get access directions from the desk) and is within easy walking distance of the Cathedral, Toulouse-Lautrec Museum and other Albi attractions.

Although the hotel is in a side street. It was not difficult to find. It is so close to the centre that it is easy to walk everywhere in Albi that you would want to go. Our room was excellent, large, clean quiet with a 6ft bed that was very comfortable and very very quiet.
Breakfast was good but expensive 15 euros per person. I would usually prefer to go a local bar for a cafe creme.

I would definately stay again. Everyone of the staff were excellent - even the night porter wanted to chat about our evening! The car parking is a bonus, safe and cheeper than the local car parks.

We had high expectations when we booked this hotel as it apparently had a four star rating. Albi does not have a plethora of fine hotels so the Saint Antoine is probably above average for Albi but below average for hotels having a four star rating. The hotel was somewhat difficult to find and once found it certainly lacked "curb appeal" as it was located on a small one way street. It wasn't a bad location and the room - very small for a four star was also very quiet. The restaurant wasn't open (early May, 2007) which was a disappointment. When we were checking out the clerk asked if we had anything from the mini-bar. We weren't aware that there was a mini bar as we certainly didn't notice one in the room - or a room safe either. The front desk staff were extremely friendly but the hotel itself was a disappointment in that we were expecting a four start hotel. I would rate the St.Antoine somewhere between 2 and three stars.
