“Good value”

This place is nothing special, but perfect if you are on a budget and want a reasonable level of comfort: the bathroom was clean, the reception was helpful, etc. Look at my photos! It is a 5-10 minute walk from the tourist office and centre of town, and 15-20 minutes from the further attractions. It is near the train station, but not so close as to hear the trains.

Room Tip: The rooms facing on to the street are cheaper, so presumably they are noisier. I had a back room, wh...

Hotel Les Colombes is a basic hotel, priced at the cheaper end, but the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was excellent and there's parking available. Breakfast was a bit small - but with two patisseries over the road...

For the cheap price, this hotel was excellent value.

The maid changed towels every day; the showers were hot, endless and welcome. The beds were lumpy, the hotel was overpriced and they charged for parking (GBP 25 for 5 nights) and breakfast was GBP 25 per day. The hotel had been reamped to maximise space available making rooms crowded and spartan, ours had nowhere to put clothes.
Privacy was minimal as you could hear conversations and ablutions from above, and either side!

From the street the Colombes does not look like much, but they have cobbled together several buildings to have a 40ish room hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were in room 27 and the room is nice, well lit, decently large, nice clean bathroom. There is nothing that suggests this is an upscale hotel. There is no artwork on the walls, the TV is small (we had it on for 5 minutes), there is no mini-bar. There is a small table and two simple chairs at the table.

There are some real negatives to be aware of. The bed sits very low. This is bad for two possible reasons. In winter, it is colder than a taller bed would be. Also, if you are older, getting in and out of the bed could be more of a challenge. While we slept well, my wife and I both woke up early with sore backs. This is not something that we normally have a problem with.

The bathroom was nice. It was well lit. I wear contact lenses and this is important. The shower had good water pressure. It took a while for the water to warm up, but once warm, it stayed warm. I am sure that during the high season this is less of a problem. The shower also does not have a curtain or door, but a partial wall and the water sprayed into the rest of the bathroom. Also, while they provided bath towels, they did not have hand towels.

The first morning there, we purchased the breakfast. For France, I am sure this is a nice breakfast, Croissants, baguettes, coffee/tea, jam, etc. The French do not do an American/German/English breakfast normally and this was a reflection of this cultural difference.

The last issue is pretty small. The hallways are well lighted. The lights are on motion detectors. The timers are set to about 5 seconds, so unless you are Superman, the lights turn off and on while walking out. It would be very nice if they could keep the lights on for 30 seconds or even a minute.

If you are staying for just one night or two, I would recommend the Colombes. Longer than that, find a place that has better beds.

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel, the room was a bit on the small side but we only paid 38 euros per night for it, they had bigger rooms but they cost more. The room was clean, the bathroom OK, though a shower curtain would have been nice. We were at the back of the hotel which was very quiet so sleep was not a problem. After reading other reviews our room had certainly been done up recently.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
About 5 minute walk from the town centre, but the chinese resteraunt by the station was excellent. Local shops in immediate vicinity and Leclerc within walking distance.
Altogether good value.

This hotel is nothing particularly special but it provides a good, clean simple, family run base for a short visit to Verdun or an overnight stay at a reasonable cost. It is very typically French and the patrons are very helpful and speak some English. There is an underground garage which is a little expensive at 10 Euros but since all of Verdun is Pay to Park is an asset. The hotel only provides continental breakfast, which is very adequate, but will direct you to restaurants nearby. We over paid for our two night stay but as soon as the patron realised it he quickly rushed down to the garage to refund our overpayment.

Basic hotel in an excellent location. The room was basic and a little tired and needed upgrading. The en-suite was fine. The service was good and the breakfast ok. The car park was excellent and reasonable value.
