“A great Nancy experience”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

I have to confess that we wanted to eat here because of the lovely Ecole de Nancy interior and that did not disappoint - but we also loved the food, the old-fashioned service and the ambience. It was Saturday lunch and the restaurant was full of local couples, friends and families enjoying good French food (with a strong seafood bias) in a very civilised setting. So one is paying for - and enjoying- a good deal more than the food and wine.

“The interior is fantastic!”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

The food isn't anything great here, but that isn't to say that it is bad. It just isn't amazing. What is amazing though is the setting. It is as if you have traveled back in time and are eating at a cafe from the fin de siecle. Definitely worth a meal or at least to stop in for coffee and a pain au chocolat. One of the jewels of the French Art Nouveau, without question.

“3 people eating tartar got serious food poisoning”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

I'll be short and fact based. We were there on October 3rd, 4 people, 3 of us ordered tartar. A few hours later we all got a major food poisoning with feaver and all other simptoms.

As a fact, the last time I got food poisoning (for any readon) was 3 years ago, a major food poisoning - 7 years ago. I like tartar (and other raw meat) and never ever had a food poisoning from it before

This is just FYI, I hope they see this review

Service was typically French and arrogant, but I don't really care as long as everything else is good, which it wasn't

“A fine Art Nouveau restaurant”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

In comparison to other Art Nouveau restaurants the decor is more gentle and muted wih delicate fronds, mosaics and coloured glass all melding together.

Our lunch was excellent - one of us had a well cooked trout and the lamb was tender. The creme brulée was excellent. There is a good choice of wines.

We have visited the Excelsior on several occasions over the past 12 years and each time we have received a generous welcome. Sitting right in the centre one could feel the busy atmosphere whilst the service is fine-tuned. Clearly it is as much a restaurant for locals as for the occasional visitor.

Of all the restaurants within the Flo group, this is our favourite.

To be recommended.

“Worth a second visit.”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

More than enough has been written about this beautifully decorated restuarant, what matters is the food and service. Booking by internet on their website is a bonus and avoid last minute problems.

A second visit proved just as enjoyable as the first, the menu offered an interesting selection and we eventually chose from the Excelsior menu at E46.00 with champagne, wine and coffee included and we had an excellent meal with very good service from the waitresses. As before we ended up chatting with the couples on adjoining tables which added to the evening. We will be back.
