Stayed 2 nights on a visitor package which included a free backpack with biscuits, water map, free wifi, 2 x 16 euro breakfasts and unlimited tea and coffee sachets in the room for 212 euros - drinks at the bar (open till 11pm) very expensive and best avoided. The best thing about this Hotel is the location, very central but very quiet and also the staff/service - very polite, helpful and all spoke English to one degree or another. They ordered taxis and answered questions and chatted to us in the lounge. Parking was 12.50 euros per day and accessed down the side of the building not from the front - we missed it the first time and had to go round in a square thank goodness for the sat nav as its all one way. Look for a little purple sign down at the side. The roof is VERY low, the first level all reserved but go up and there is plenty of spaces. You pay when you check out. The public areas are nicely decorated and there is a lift to all floors. As everyone else reports, the room was small, not much room around the bed, and the decor looked as if a quick makeover had been done at some point in the last couple of years at minimum expense. The carpets definately need changing, the bedrooms have bright orange swirly 1970s pattern and the corridor carpets are threadbare and worn out in places, I think they were green originally, difficult to tell. The furniture is in a frightful dark wood melamine finish so the room we had overlooking a tatty courtyard had little natural daylight and I could not have stood it for longer than a couple of days. Having said that the place was truly spotless including the mattress and under the bed (which I always check) and in the corners and it smelt naturally fresh. The voile curtain could have done with a wash. The bedding was crisp and fresh and the bed was comfortable and very large but the pillows were thin. I heard no noise at all all the time we were there. Had to have the window open all the time as it was stuffy even with the heating control right down. The bathroom tiling was dated and the grout could have done with refreshing, but no mould all 70s style again - but very spacious, clean and everything worked. Toiletries were provided and replaced each day. Found the same as another reviewer, there was no cold water in the taps. Good shower/bath but there was an electric radiator in the bathroom which had a blackened grill (see photo) which was a bit alarming, so we wouldn't have used it. The hairdryer was surprisingly good. The breakfast buffet was OK, sausages were tiny and bacon the usual continental stringy style, there was cereal, bread, croissants, fruit - fresh and tinned style, yoghurt cold meat/cheese and a fresh orange juice maker so plenty of choice and in a nice clean, fresh dining room. When we arrived the food was not available as chef had gone home (approx 9.30pm) so we went to Pasta Mano which was excellent (see my review) for a quick unbooked pizza. Plenty of restaurants to choose from in the vicinity. I was a little dismayed at the maintenance of the room, the skirting board behind the curtain was missing and electric cables were showing (see my photo) and the ceiling had sagged/cracked. Having said all that the service/friendliness, cleanliness and convenience made up for a lot and I would consider going back again for a short visit if I visit my daughter who is working in the town, again.
