“First Decent Steak in France”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

My third steak in 2 weeks in France was the only one worthy of the name - although slightly too well done for medium. Flavoursome and tender. My wife had shoulder of lamb with a mixed vegetable garnish that looked like a dry ratatouille and tasted lovely - although I was not allowed to test this.
The highlight was the best dauphinoise ever. How can such a simply conceived dish taste so magnificently.
Cheese included a goat's cheese with yellow rind. Waitress did tell me its name - but forgotten. It was hard and creamy.
Service was 100% right - attentive and unobtrusive.

“authentic but chic bistro”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Chez Alphonse is an authentic but stylish bistro, with food a cut above the ordinary bistro fare.
There is lots of offal on the menu( its in the butchers' quarter) but also great fish and steaks too. A bit thin (as is usual) on veggie food. The helpings are generous and you'd be a fool to miss the chocolate mousse (help yourself to a huge bowl served at your table) or profiteroles! Wine list is decent and reasonably priced. There are tables outside in the summer. They serve quite late too which is a plus. Friendly and efficient wait staff.

“I just love it ....”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

We have been here several times now for lunch Centrally located, it is always busy so if you haven't booked get there early. They know how to cook in the kitchen and I particularly love their food as they have lots of offally type dishes and do excellent steaks, and there is something for everyone. Staff are charming and efficient and there is always a good atmosphere. Good value.

“Basic affordable french food and interesting setting.”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Located next to the central market and in the ancient part of Limoges, the setting is picturesque. Reservation should be made due to the popularity of the restaurant. The interior is modestly airconditioned, so on a hot day it can be warm if you are seated inside. There are a dozen sidewalk tables. The menu is diverse, and is changed daily. Dinner for two will be in the range of 50 to 100 euros including wine. I would visit again.
