“Return visit after some years.”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

Recently revisited this hotel and found it to be even better than last time.
Fresh new décor to the reception, breakfast room and stairways.
The proprietor was smart, charming and efficient.
We booked for the Bastille night celebrations of which we were reminded when booking and a rearward room arranged. Our room was practically brand new, but some others were a work in progress.
We loved the grand staircase with inset PIR spotlights but others might prefer a lift of which there was no sign.I don't know if there are ground floor rooms for those less able?
The prices seem to have increased slightly but its amazing location and friendly welcome make this our first choice in Limoges every time!
Oh and there's WiFi on every floor, very useful!

Room Tip: at rear for a good sleep, but the front rooms would have had a spectacular view of the Bastille day...

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel de Paris. The beds are hard as rocks, but we like that, so it was not a negative for us. The breakfast was somewhat limited (no decaf coffee!), but the main issue was the noise from the street. We had to close our window, which meant that the room was warm and stuffy. Some air movement would have helped. The view was of the parking lot, but we did not go to Limoges to look out of our hotel window! The bathroom was well-appointed.

The fine quality of this hotel was quite a surprise as we were simply looking for an inexpensive hotel near the train station. It is listed as a 1 star but it was much better than most of the 2 star hotels we have stayed in the past year. The room cost 55 Euros. It was large and spotlessly clean, had a good shower and the WIFI worked well. There is no elevator and rooms are located on 3 floors. The hotel manager offered to make a reservation for us at a nearby restaurant when we called to make the booking. The restaurant he booked was moderately priced and of good value. Upon arrival, he helped with our bags. The train station was about two blocks from the hotel at the end of a big park. The hotel overlooks the park and train station both of which are quite beautiful. There are both inexpensive (8-10 Euros) and moderately priced (12-19 Euros) restaurants within 1-2 blocks of the hotel. We felt completely safe walking around the area at night.

Room Tip: The lowest priced rooms on the first floor surpassed our expectations but lacked a view of the park.

Hotel very much lived up to expectations from other reviews. Extremely helpful manager and staff. City map produced instantly, restaurant recommendation spot on . A well managed taste of an old French town hotel but with excellent bathrooms and plumbing! Worth paying a little extra for the "elegance" grade rooms for extra space and the excellent bathroom - after all it's not expensive when you take into account the free parking immediately opposite and the closeness to all the main limoges points of interest (all 10-15 mins walk) Breakfast room quite elegant and food quite generous given overall price. Some slightly faded aspects to decor but clearly owner is gradually producing an unusual and first rate hotel in a fantastic old building.

Room Tip: Choose elegance grade room

On the road in France, overnight destination unknown. By 9pm the GPS indicated we could make it to Limoges in an hour or so. I texted my daughter in the US and asked her to find us a place to stay. A few minutes later she replied that according to TripAdvisor, Hotel de Paris was the #1 recommendation in Limoges, and she gave me the phone number. The young woman who answered the phone spoke only a little English and I spoke un petit peu de francais, and she told me that they had rooms available but by the time we would arrive, their office would be closed. Upon further discussion, she agreed to take our reservation and to stay late and wait for us. That was good deed number one. The second nice thing she did was after we arrived, she called a nearby restaurant that was open late and made a reservation for us. The next morning, this same sweet woman was up early serving breakfast in the dining room.

Our room was on the second floor, up the spiral staircase, behind large old double doors. Inside, the room was small and rather plain; almost shabby; but comfortable and with a little balcony and a view out the front of the hotel. It was clearly a budget hotel but not a cookie-cutter chain, which we appreciated. There was a sense of faded elegance to the place and it provided everything we needed: a quiet place to rest on our journey. Other perks included free parking across the street from the hotel and a reasonable rate. If we had been staying in the area, it would have been a great location for exploring the city, and not too far from the train station.

We stayed here for just one night after a two week holiday in France. The location is great for the airport just twenty minutes away max. But it is in the beautiful town centre with loads of free parking across the road in a car park. Which means you can explore the city without payin parking fees.
Across the park is the architecturally fantastic train station, featured on a recent perfume commercial. The cathedral is about ten minutes walk which leads you into the shops/bars/restaurants of the city.
As for the hotel the receptionist was extremely polite and friendly and booked us into a restaurant too. Hotal was clean, room comfortable, en-suite could do with a little work but it too was clean. We opted for the breakfast which at 7.50 euro was a little expensive but plenty to go at if you like bread/croissants, tea, coffee, preserves.
In my opinion well located good price hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the front for best views.

A lovely old French hotel, set on a street in the heart of Limoges. The owner Terry was friendly and helpful, as were the staff. The room was clean and tidy, it had high ceilings, beautiful mouldings and a marble fireplace, and tall windows which opened out to give a view of the street below. Breakfast was relaxed and informal. The hotel was a good base from which to explore the area in and around the city. We would highly recommend paying a visit and experiencing the thrill of a bygone era.

Room Tip: We took the advice of others who had stayed before, and booked one of the more expensive rooms, and...
