Set near the Cathedral and Botanical Gardens this museum although small packs a lot in for your €5. I mainly wanted to see the Egyptian Gallery but there is also a large collection of Roman artifacts too and the history of Limoges as well as paintings and murals. Well worth an hour.

The museum is home to several permanent collections including some early Renoir paintings and a fascinating collection of models showing the growth of Limoges over the years. The real draw for us though was seeing how the Bishop would have lived as you wandered from gallery to gallery in the gorgeous building which sits in the middle of the (free) botanical gardens.

So few visitors, which is unfair for this nice Beaux Arts Muséum.
3 small Renoirs , one Morisot, a few Guillaumin and others ..
History of Limoges as well .. a real treat of quietness.

This museum is within the former Bishop's Palace, which is set in the Bishops gardens, the building itself is lovely, the exterior as well as the interior architecture is typical of its time. The collections within are also very interesting, with most of the information very relevant to Limoges and the Limousin. There is a section devoted to Limoges in Roman times, and there are Egyptian antiquities collected by a Limousin manufacturer. There is a lovely collection of limoges enamels too. All in all a very worthy visit for a few hours. While you are there you should also pop into the St. Etienne Cathedral, which has lovely stained glass windows.
