“It is a Cathedral”
Reviewed January 9, 2012

... not exactly a beauty like all the other Cathedrals in France or Spain but it has its own history and it is a charming cathedral to visit in Perpignan. It is lively during the Easter celebration.

“Restoration still underway...”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

The major project of restoring the Cathedral is still under way. You can still visit the Cathedral and see the progress. I just hope that the people who make decisions on protecting Perpignan's heritage will rethink their policy of installing modern halogen street lights in such an historic area....

“Pretty average cathedral - don't go out of your way.”
Reviewed November 19, 2011

This cathedral is very old and has some interesting history behind it but that is just about all you can say. When we visited there in 2006, 2007 and 2009 it had been undergoing extensive renovations, but in a country where there are far better examples such as Chartres Cathedral, Rouen and Nantes Cathedral, not to mention Notre Dame in Paris, St-Jean is nothing extraordinary and quite small for a cathedral. It is located down a passage way in a small square/plaza which is frequently littered with dog poop. Nothing unusual for this part of the world. There is always an old lady standing at the entrance door just up the steps - I have never determined if she is one of those beggars that stand outside places like La Poste or if she is connected with the church - either way she wants you to put money in her hand. Just ignore and proceed inside. You wont be overwhelmed.
