Owner description: The Maison Carree in Nimes is the only Roman ancient temple completely preserved. The inspiration for the design of the Maison Carree came from the temples of Apollo and Mars Ultor in Rome. Inside, you will discover a 23 minutes film "Nemausus, the birth of Nimes" which explains how Nimes became a roman city and shows the construction of the main roman sights of the city (Arena, Maison Carree, Tour Magne).

“As good as Rome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

Very well preserved temple in the middle of Nimes. Seems a little out of place next to modern buildings. Careful on the porch, there are only steps directly in front and no railing to the sides. Easy to drop 20 feet if you're not careful.

“Pristine Roman Temple”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

Right in the middle of town (as is the still intact Colosseum) is this beautiful Roman temple. You can walk all around it, sit on the steps and visit inside all while you ponder the events that have occurred at this site over thousands of years!

“split decision”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013

This ancient Roman temple is fantastic to visit. The world is fortunate that it still exists, and it should not be missed. But what the owners did to the inside of that temple is criminal. They boxed it in and created a crude theater with a lame 3-D film about the bravest of Nimes. It was quite ridiculous. I really wish I hadn't subjected myself to that silliness. I would have been much happier to simply enjoy the exterior of this magnificent site.

“Stunningly beautiful Roman temple”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

Recently cleaned, this iconic building, visited by Thomas Jefferson, is a beauty, sitting serenely in its square, with room to breathe all around it. The incredible ornamentation and simplicity of its overall design are remarkable. A must see.

This is really impressive roman building, beautifully preserved in the centre of Nimes. Not to be missed.
