“Absolutely amazing”

This was my second Roman monument to ever see and I was not disappointed. it's in such good condition and they now hold concerts there! I would love to attend one in the future as I think it would be spectacular. we did the 3 monument tour for the day, on foot. I highly recommend it. we started with a coffee in the square with a huge fountain then walked about 5 minutes to the arena. there, we walked around and through the arena. you can do an audio tour but there are also signs in English which provide interesting historical facts about how the arena has been used over the centuries. then we walled to the Maison Carree and that was great just to walk around and look at. stopped for lunch, did some shopping then walked to the source of the Pont du Gard and that was absolutely awesome. freezing cold water bubbling up from 100s of feet down while sitting in a Roman share that looks like it was just build. I absolutely love nimes and it well worth the trip. the city is gorgeous

“An amazing arena”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This Roamn arean is now used for concerts and bull-fighting. It was built in the first century AD and is complete. It has a fascinating history and is not to be missed!

“Best conserved Arena from France”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

With arena from Arles, Maison Caré, Glanum, Les Antiques, the roman site at Vaison la Romain and of course Le pont du Gard the best conserved roman site of France. In the summer the place be for some great performances like 2012 David Getta, 2013 Depeche Mode etc.
Nice starting point to discover Nimes for discovering, shopping or lunch.

“A glimpse into ancient history”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

The audio accompaniment to the Arenes de Nimes is very thorough and entertaining. No stone is left unturned as we wind our way through the halls, tunnels and stairs. The evolving use of the building as times and necessities changed were described to emphasize that its history isn't a snapshot frozen in time like Pompeii. I was sorry to miss the Dead Can Dance concert held there a couple of days before we got there.

“I don't need to go to Rome now”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We had booked a hotel in Nimes for an overnight stay and hadn't really done any research on the area as we were moving on the next morning. So we were totally amazed to find our apartment hotel overlooking this incredible Arena. Its like a mini Coliseum but in better condition. We made time to have a tour of it the next morning. The kids thoroughly enjoyed having free reign to explore around it and the audio guides were in many languages and the staff very helpful. My only warning is go early or late on a hot day as it was incredibly warm in there amongst all that stone. Well worth a visit.
