“Complete disappointment”
Reviewed October 26, 2012 via mobile

We went to this restaurant for lunch after reading reviews. What a disappointment! We thought the food was mediocre to bad - an ice cold very boring salad with tinned green beans to start then oven chips or undercooked potatoes, which we think we're supposed to be roasted, with the mains. Perhaps they were having an off day but we didn't risk it again.

“Good, traditional restaurant”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Good food, good value, warm and friendly place with comfortable ambience and what seemed like a mainly local clientele. Thoroughly recommend the lambs brain salad starter - beautifully cooked - but everything we had on two visits was excellent. Well situated off the main tourist drag but not too far off, and handy for the station and the excellent Hotel des Tuileries across the road. A good find.

“An amazing experience”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

What a find! A truly warm welcome and exceptional food and drink. The first night we took photographs of the dessert because it was so colourful. We went the next evening and had the 50 euro offer for 2 people. Amazing value, so tasty and really superb value.

“Truly a Surprise!!”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

We went tonight to La Palette Gourmand for dinner. We decided to have the 50E "Surprise" menu. To begin, we were given an OK Kir with PRETZELS. I've never had pretzels as an amuse bouche in France before. This was followed with as good an entree as one might get anywhere. An incredibly good pate de foie gras. Unfortunately it was matched with a white wine almost as bad as Gros Plante from Nantes. For the plat, we received an excellent piece of Merlu topped with very good tapenade. Again accompanied by the sme lame white. I got an excellent dessert with the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had. My wife, being lactose intolerant, received the worst dessert she's had in our two weeks in France, just fruit.

All in all, a true surprise. A study in contrasts.

“Superb quality for a very reasonable price”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

We had dinner here at the recommendation of our hotel owner and were thoroughly satisfied. It is a little off the beaten track because it is not located within the historical part of central Nimes, but it is still within easy walking distance of all attractions and the station.

We were warmly greeted by the owners (monsieur - the chef, madame - the front of house) and sat in the main room. It is brightly decorated with colourful table settings and the portraits and works of art of famous French artists on the walls. Service was prompt and friendly (and madame quickly realised we would be in need of the English menu). We declined an aperitif but were offered a small taster (toasted bread with homemade olive and anchovy tapenade) before the meal. My friend had the palette de pecheur (fisherman's catch) which was amazing and only 16 euro (fantastic value), and I had the salmon. Each dish was beautifully presented and decorated with fresh herbs and spices. As usual in France, fresh bread was provided. Even though I was quite full I enjoyed the "childhood memory" dessert - waffles with hot chocolate, whipped cream (with syrup) and ice-cream!

It was a delicious dinner in a warm and friendly environment - c'est MAGNIFIQUE!
