“Very good food with friendly service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013 via mobile

We returned to Des Artistes after having a great meal there 3 years ago to find new management, but still high quality food and service.

My wife had the €16 menu of Nimoise salad that included dips followed by a spicey beef casserole, followed by a chocolate mouse, while I had the €24 menu of a duck gesiers salad, a main of a very good steak and vegetables, followed by a tiramasu. We both agreed we did well with our choices.

Total price for three courses was €46 including a half litre of very nice house red.
Overall a top dinner.

“Excellent meal and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

We were wandering the cold, dark streets on a wintery night in Nimes hoping to find a good restaurant but guessing that we wouldn't as it was terribly quiet and not too many restaurants were open.   We saw a formula blackboard menu outside a little place, could not translate some of it so went in and asked if  the waitress spoke english.  The young waitress was excellent and went through each dish explaining  the type of meat, how it was cooked and  the accompanying  sauce. She went through everything patiently and not pushy at all.  She won us over and we had a divine 3 course meal (formula €19.00) at this restaurant. I sensed that the waitress was possibly an owner as she was quiet proud of the quality of food they served and the way it was cooked and presented.

“Great value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

Having enjoyed lunch here one day we went back again for dinner a couple of days later. At the start of the menu was a list of local suppliers - a good sign. All the food was good and great value for money. My wife's foie gras and fig creme brulee (yes, really) was inventive and exceptional. This might make Les Artistes sound rather fussy but it was anything but that. Staff (all friendly) weren't fazed as the three of us swopped courses with each other, brought us extra spoons for a shared dessert, gave us details of the local brewer whose beer they sold, found us the latest Petit Fute Guide in which they were listed etc. We understand it has been under new ownership since earlier in 2012. They're doing a great job.

“very pleasant service and excellent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2012

authentic local food in a nice back-street setting with charning service. Great value for money (120 euro for 6 including wine). we would happily go back. i am bemused by previous reviews as we have had many many crap meals travelling around Frane and this lunch was one of the nicer ones - especially for the price.

“Excellent food, great service, fair prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2012

I went to the "Restaurant des Artistes" for dinner with a friend, following the recommendation of the hotel manager where we stayed. The two of us ordered 6 different dishes from two separate "menu deals"; 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, 2 desserts and some red wine.

Everything was great, from the overall atmosphere, to the service, and of course, the food. I found the bull stew to be great, and the spice cake with vanilla icecream truly amazing. I would say that this vanilla icream dessert was among the best I've tried in Europe in recent years. Seriously.

If you want great French local food for a reasonable price, this is it. The chef knows what he's doing, together with the manager and servers. Highly recommended, as of June 2012.
