“Wonderful Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2014

Enjoyed a delicious dinner here. The staff were excellent and did very well in explaining the menu to us in great detail in English. We had the 37 euro menu which included starter, main and dessert or cheese. We were also treated to an amuse bouche, sorbet and addition desserts with our coffee. Foie gras with beef was a lovely main, and the chocolate opera dessert was heavenly. Rounded off the meal with a carefully chosen whiskey from the extensive menu. Would highly recommend this restaurant - we really enjoyed our evening here.

“Beauty and the beast...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2014

A beautiful restaurant with medieval arches looking onto an open courtyard with a huge whiskey inventory. The greeting, service and atmosphere were extraordinary. The aperitif and wine delicious. But I hate to say that unfortunately the food was just okay - we each ordered 3 course 25 Euro menus. We started well, the olives served with the aperitif and the amuse bouche (razor clam) were excellent. Our starters of Asian tempera prawn on vermicelli used good ingredients but any 'Asian' essence or flavour was lacking, in fact it was quite bland. My main of trout was thankfully good but my husbands rabbit was dreadfully dry and overcooked without even an accompanying sauce. Both our mains came with different well prepared potato dishes but nary a speck of vegetables. The cafe gourmand was tasty but tiny compared to many others we have sampled elsewhere in France. By showing your current Routard Guide you get a free house aperitif which was very good.

“What a place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2014

I went here as part of a group visiting a local business and was taken for a meal here by our hosts. The meal was a set menu but was superb, i believe it is called the Menu dégustation and each course was accompanied by a local wine designed to accompany the food.

We finished of with the choice of a fine malt whisky or a cognac.

I can't express just how good this meal was!

“EXCELLENT - Why are you not rated number 1?”

What a magnificent find - we were in Montpellier for our wedding anniversary and wanted something special - well this was it. We had wandered all around the old town and could not find anything that looked suitable and the only one we found on Tripadvisor was closed. We went into the Tourist Information office and scanned all their leaflets and again the only one we fancied was La Diligence. The chap in the Tourist Office very kindly made the booking for us making everything so easy. The location of the restaurant is in the old part behind the main street, we would never have found it without the map. It was magical inside, like an old crypt with beautiful décor and the maître d' was so helpful. Every table was taken by 8.30 and the place was buzzing. We had the 39 euro Discovery menu and everything was excellent - after a delightful amuse bouche I had the pea soup and my husband the rabbit spring roll, then mine was the net of haddock and his the sea bass, both meals superb. Then came a refresher of blackcurrant sorbet with vodka and finally cheese for my husband and the millefeuille for me. If you want a special night out this is a must and all in for drinks before, wine, meals and coffee 132 euro. Well Done La Diligence and thank you for making our evening so special.

“C'est magnifique!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014 via mobile

Ate here with my local business host - it was delightful! A quiet and refined experience within a delightful space of ancient architecture. The gastronomic experience was superb: from my escargot starter, to the medaillon de veaux main, finishing with a financier du chocolat all accompanied by a lovely local wine --- it was all fantastic! Situated within the old (pedestrian) part of the city there are plenty of nearby sites and beautiful walks. Qualifies as a "MUST" for my future visits!
