We went today on a blisteringly hot day, so only walked to the lion & monkey enclosures after doing the Amazonian Greenhouse which has some amazing creatures inside - even one that this zoo addict had never seen before (a Coendou).

The enclosures are huge, which is probably why you can't see the animals as they hang out at the far side (and wouldn't you if a load of strange creatures came to stare at you?). I think that makes it a great zoo for the animals, but recognise that it makes a slightly less exciting experience for humans visiting.

I would definitely come back for a wander, and second all the other points about bringing a buggy if you have kids under 6 - it's going to be a long wander.

But the Amazonian Greenhouse (Sa Serre Amazonia) is 30-45 mins of entertainment, so if you're in the neighbourhood - the 6.50 euro fee for adults, and with kids under 6 going free makes it definitely worth stopping by

We didn't try the restaurant, although it seemed busy when we left - but if you have a car, it might be worth stopping at the large supermarket (Carrefour, Market) which is on the way there. More choice than the ham sandwiches available in the zoo shop (as an alternative to the restaurant), which were totally fine with my 5 & 2 year old boys.

This is one of the best Zoos I have ever been to. It is very large and can easily swallow an entire afternoon so it's definitely worth bringing a picnic. There are loads of benches to stop at. There is a wealth of amazing wildlife on show here. There are very large enclosures for most of the animals, including leopards, lions, bears, giraffe, white Rhino, ostrich, zebra, monkeys, deer, goats, antelope and many more. Best of all it is completely free! You can park for free, or get there by bus. It is possible to walk but only if you are very keen. For a zoo of this size and scope to be free is a massive plus. Absolutely brilliant!

We have visited the premises last year, a part of our visit to Montpellier. It is one of the attractions listed for that area and we thought it would be a good fun for our little daughter. The zoo is such a big one and requires a lot of walking, which is exhausting. After a while you just get frustrated because of the walking and not a single bench to rest. Despite the walk, when we arrived at the view points, we were not able to see most of the animals for an unknown reason. There were no staff to answer our questions, and the whole thing was not welcoming at all. At the end of our visit, we were exhausted, covered with dust and just annoyed. It is a waste of time, you can easily find better things to do in the area.

We walked the 3 miles here and 3 miles back from the city centre and the zoo itself is quite large so another few miles there. The zoo is free of charge and the animals have large spaces so sometimes hard to spot them. This was fine with us as the quality of living is obviously better than in some zoos. We paid extra for the amazon exhibition and glad we did. Great place with birds walking around yours feet! Would recommend if you have extra time left once you have explored the city centre

I love this place as a place for a family stroll, but if you're expecting a proper zoo then this isn't the place for you. It's more like a large park with animals dotted around that you happen to come across. It's great for children and for running. Plus it's free!
