Novotel Suites Montpellier
Ranked #36 of 93 Hotels in Montpellier
Reviewed August 17, 2012

We (family of 5) stayed here in early July. The hotel is in the Antigone district which is very modern district. Large boulevards and open spaces made it a lovely place to stay. The hotel is close to a couple of tram stops which made the journey into the old district very easy. Walking into the old part of the city took about 10mins.

The hotel was very clean and the rooms large. They also had useful kitchenettes. The buffet style breakfasts were great. Pool was small and very cold but the hotel is very close to the municipal olympic sized swimming pool which we used instead. The children appreciated the free movies.

Overall a great family hotel for a family.

Very good - easy, clean, spacious, comfortable and secure place for a one night stop-over.

Underground car-park very reassuring. (but tight cornering for long vehicles) No restaurant on site but nearby Mercure Hotel (also in the Accor chain) can do a very good bar meal - its a short walk away - fine on a glorious summer evening, but not so, perhaps, on a dark, rainy November night! Walk a little further and you can eat in one of the riverside cafes. Watch out for trams!

Note: Sunday things seem very "quiet". In the evening not all cafes open - Mercure restaurant closed ! Thank goodness for the Mercure bar meal service.
If you are too tired to go out foraging however, there is a fair range of microwave meals in the Novotel's foyer chill cabinets and so, its up to your room's kitchenette (microwave included) and dinner is served! Or bring your own!

Surprised to see an outdoor swimming pool for longer-term guests (we were on a quick one night stop-over).

Reception staff very helpful

Breakfast was better than I expected - v good range of fresh food available from early start as well.

My first use of the Suite Novotel - quite impressed, would use it again.

The only hotel where I have stayed where there is a second bed that not made up on arrival (I shared with a friend for the first night of a business trip - my friend left back to UK) and I was handed a sheet to make the bed up myself. Oh Well, welcome to the Suite Novotel.

Big room though - all quite characterless in a new part of the town. Good for the trams thought which run from two nearby stations. Free wif-fi is always welcome and was on offer.

The hotel seems to run on no staff - no room service (you get food from the 'boutique' to heat up, fair selection though). Reception staff double up as bar staff (in fact the reception is the bar).

The room air-conditioner was struggling to keep up with the June Montpellier heat and seemed to be no air conditioner in the very hot corridors.

Seem to be charging a premium price for a mediocre brand. The Suite brand of Novotel seems to be struggling – not quite sure what it is supposed to be offering – a full service hotel or a basic self catering rooms.

A bit faded but the hotel is well located, suite style gives plenty of space and a pleasent outlook onto the gardens below, lots of light and a good little kitchen set up. We arrived late from the train and were checked by efficient staff, we appreciated the free movies, couldn't get the Internet to work then discovered there was no keyboard in the room. The bedside light was not working, but apart from this the stay was comfortable, the room clean and the hotel was in the right spot for us, near the station and the airport. We were on a tight schedule with late arrival and early departure all of which was handled well by the staff. All in all a pleasent stay which suited our needs.

+smartly furnished and designed. like having the chaise-type seating instead of sofa. kidney shaped table encourages sitting and doing work. miniature kitchen setup. lots of deep shelves and such for storage. dual-access to bathroom (from main room and bedroom). overall, very good use of space in the european way. very good breakfast, too.

-the chase thing is not that comfortable. tv is very small, if that matters to you (not me). noone will praise it for being modern or hip... if that matters to you. hate having common-hall ironing facilities instead of in-room setup. baffling use of half-length swinging shower door whereby after a shower the floor will get entirely wet (why do they use these in europe??). most annoyingly, the internet connectivity system that requires re-confirmation of use every so often.

the plus and minuses balance themselves out to a 3. i got really good sleep there so nudge it to a 4.
