“Central Touristic Area for Food and Drinks”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

We now live in this great city and pass by the Place de la Comedie on a regular basis as it is a very central area in downtown Montpellier. Visually, it is quite stunning - particularly in the evening when the lights come on.
Both as tourists and now as residents, we never really felt the need to stay in this particular area because of its touristic feel. The restos are very populated and generally overpriced and street acts aren't really our thing...

Nice to see but not really necessary to linger...

“Lively and interesting”

For tourists a trip on Le Petit Train is interesting and tells you a little about Montpellier. Place de la Comedie is great- plenty to see and do!

...and shopping. Or so says my wife. It's fun. We had no idea what to expect in Montpellier (it was a leg of our train trek from Alicante to Paris) but we were not disappointed.

“Great atmousphere especially in the evening”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

It is great that the centre of Montpellier is basically pedestrianised - and I'm not sure there is any other Southern French town with such an impressive central square. Unfortunately it is very open with no shade from any trees, but there are a myriad of shaded outdoor restaurants where one can sip a glass or a coffee and to people watch from. The park at the northern end is also delightful if you want a shaded walk.
There is a great atmousphere especially in the evening. The light plays off the ornate buildings and there is always some entertaining buskers - as well as the usual police patrols chasing away the illegal buskers which is all part of the fun.
If in Montpellier you will inevitably end up walking through the square and there always seems to be something enjoyable happening. Great for photos at night.
