Situated between the train station and the main square. A bit rough round the edges but overall clean, comfortable, and helpful staff.

The Royal Hotel is a great place to stay, especially if you are arriving by train as it is so close to the station. Its also very close to the main plaza Comedia and all of historic Montpellier. Clean, very good service, good beds and showers and the AC works very well. Excellent value.

The hotel is about 5 minutes away from the railway station and very easy to find by following the tram lines from the station towards the centre.
The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the very cosmopolitan main square
The hotel has a 24 hour reception with very friendly English speaking staff
The hotel is very clean and well organised, we were allocated a room (100) on the first floor above the main entrance, the bed was comfy and the room was clean
The only negative is the rooms at the front of the hotel with the best views tend to get a slight noise frpm passing trams which run between 0600 & midnight, it could disturb you if you are a light sleeper, but overall i would definately stay here again if the price was right, i paid 200 euro's for a 2 night fri & sat night stayin June 2012, whilst in the city watching the Wigan Warriors rugby league side against the Catalan Dragons

Room Tip: Email the hotel a week prior to your arrival

We were staying overnight in Montpellier on our way to Carcassonne by train. I chose this hotel for it's proximity to the railway station. It is literally a 5 minute walk from the station and very close to lots of places to eat. The check in was quick and the staff very friendly. The room was enormous by french standards, had seperate toilet and bathroom. The decoration was not great, the carpet being a bit worn and ugly, but as a stopover hotel was perfectly adequate. We did not have breakfast in the hotel, there are lots of cafe's nearby which seemed better value.

For a 2 / 3 star hotel, this place is outstanding. Easy access to the central old town part of the city, a quick stroll to the tram and train station and clean, tidy, comfortable rooms. The rooms were surprisingly quiet as well, very sound proof which made a very pleasant change! The staff spoke English very well and were pleasant and helpful. We highly recommend this Hotel as a well priced Hotel in the center of Montpellier.

Room Tip: We were in room 511 - very quiet.

We felt very lucky to have booked this hotel, as the location, staff, and price all ended up to be outstanding. We really enjoyed our stay here and were able to easily access the central old town part of the city from our room, as well as get on the tram to the newer shopping areas. We were particularly happy with the staff, and found them to be incredibly friendly and helpful. The room itself was nice and comfortable, nothing incredibly special but nice. Our view was a tad lackluster, but it just made us all the more ready to go explore on our own! Definitely a great find!

Room Tip: Would ask for a room with a view of the street if possible.
