This tiny restaurant features enormous portions, so if you are very hungry, put La Tomate on your short list. The quality of the food is average, however. My fish soup was excellent, but the faux filet in peppercorn sauce was only OK, and my wife's duck cassoulet was likewise average.

Service was warm and friendly, and the ambiance was lovely. Be sure to reserve your table a day in advance.

This is an absolute treasure in the centre of Montpellier. A very loyal clientelle ensures it is packed out every lunchtime where apart from the daily special (a three course menu) there are at least 6 other dishes available for each course. Prices start around 8 euros for plat de jour and a complete meal for 12 euros.

Also very busy in the evening but without the daily special menu prices then start around 16 euros for a complete meal.

This is not haute cuisine but very comforting food served by friendly staff and accompanied by decent vin de table.

This is a good, homely restaurant, with big portions of simple and well cooked French food. The prices are reasonable, so all in all, a good eating experience. A bit crowded on the night we went, to the point of being hard to walk in between the tables. But the fact that it was packed with locals shows what good value this place is.

Very nice old building in the historical area of the town. Bit crowded inside. Bit of kitsch on the façade.
Nice and friendly staff.. Mixed opinion of the food. Some of it very good ( house’s terrine ) some a bit “industrial” to the point of wondering if it was not directly from the can (the casserole). Good duck. Regular veal. Excellent homemade sweets (I had an excellent chocolate terrine). Good prices and full plates. Probably is better to go there several times to be able to identify the real good food. In a word, your neighborhood Sunday restaurant
