“A design trésor!”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

Baudon de Mauny was my first impression of Montpellier - and it was a great one! BdeM arranged a car service for me from the airport, which was a must since cars cannot access the old city. The car pulled up to this hôtel particular, which is nestled among the tiny streets of l'Écusson. A grand entrance welcomed, with the main Directoire-style glass door surrounded by a pebbled courtyard and side fountain, gleamed upon by a light fixture that's reminiscent of the Hermès calèche. Ancient stone stairs guide you up to reception, where you're transported into an 18th century-meets-Kartell-dinner party. I was so impressed by the design detail upon arrival, that I passed an hour with a cup of coffee in the main lounge admiring the perfect blend of transition -- blend Louis XVI to modern. By the time I had made it to my room, I had already taken many notes and pictures of the design elements! My room was equally as entertaining and perfect (including skype-friendly WIFI!). Everything was very well done, very welcoming, the service more-than-hospitable and the location beyond excellent! I absolutely loved BdM! However... The only minor flaw was that the breakfast was not of a 15€ calibre -- BdM would be better off placing espresso machines in the rooms and forgetting the faux-croissant breakfast. I would definitely return!

Dear Zanotti,

At first, many thanks for your very enthousiastic comment and great apreciation !

(what a pleasure when guests like you notice all the details we have put in baudon)

However I'm not completly satisfied with your comment regarding breakfast as for us it must be a pleasant and healthy moment for starting the day:

We offer at least 2 type of breads and viennoiseries (coming from the bakery next door and never industrial), ham and cheese from the local market, fresh fruits salad, yogourt, eggs as you wish, fruit juice and various choice of hot chocolate (real ones) teas and coffee (expresso on request) butter and handcraft jam. Breakfast is served with silver cutelry.

We wish to satisfied you 100% next time, it will be always a pleasure welcoming you back to baudon de mauny,.

Best regards,

The Owner and General Manager

My mom and I stayed here for two days in early February and loved the experience. It was perfect for blending into the city--you certainly don't feel like a tourist coming out of those magnificent front doors! We stayed in one of the smallest rooms, but it still felt spacey for just the two of us. We had a hard time leaving it (especially with that comfy bed)! Our room was also right outside the room where breakfast was so we were able to sit out there at night with a bottle of wine, bread and cheese. Absolutely beautiful. For those looking for amenities such as a gym or around-the-clock service, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you want a quiet, relaxing place with that classic French charm, I highly recommend it! I know that we will be back--hopefully soon!

Spent three nights at Baudon de Mauny last week. The 18th century home turned inn is remarkably well situated in the city, which allows you to walk to museums, shopping and restaurants. Alain, the owner and host, was very helpful in arranging reservations for some of the city's best dining options. The rooms are quite large and full of comtemporary furniture and artwork not to mention the 15 foot ceilings. This is a very old building with lots of charm and history in the heart of the city but this may not satisify your need for the amenities one finds in a modern hotel. I strongly recommend Baudon de Mauny and would stay there again when I'm back in Montpellier.

We spent two nights here with our daughters and were so impressed with the charm and decor of the hotel. We loved the grand sweeping entrance hall and stairs and the fact that it is not commercialised in any way, but totally authentic. Our rooms were immaculate and the staff extremely helpful. Breakfast is a silly price, so we opted for the little cafe just round the corner, where the four of us enjoyed fresh croissants and good coffee for a third of the price the hotel charges for just one breakfast! One piece of advice, if you have the rooms we had, on the first floor outside the reception, make sure you shut the outside shutters (les volets), otherwise the room is quite light. Our daughters had to switch off the landing light for the same reason.

The location and the property itself are excellent. Right in the middle of the old town with a huge selection of bakeries, cafes, wine bars and a stroll away from everywhere and anywhere, Baudon has plenty going for it. The mansion itself is a throwback in time and quite superbly renovated. It was a great place to be based for a five day tour. That said, there are a few things which would have made all the difference - the shower rose dripped and was not fixed; the breakfast is steep (as has been said before) and for the room price ought to have been included; and the separate loo and shower was frankly a pain. BUT for location and comfort these are minor niggles.

From the moment of arrival I felt like royalty staying at this beautiful property. The architecture of the building with the big old doors feels like stepping back in time. Although being in the centre of the old town, the hotel has a quietness which soon became the oasis I never wanted to leave. I enjoyed my 2 nights stay and wish I could have stayed longer.

Stayed 3 nights with our two children in November. Very good location with a short walk to the Comedie / city centre. The room was comfortable, spacious and WiFi worked great. We'd stay here again. It's in the city so you will hear some night noise with people out late. Owner accommodated any request we had!
