I must admit I probably would not have picked this restaurant, as the menu descriptions and pictures of the food are not that enticing. Fortunately for us, my wife's relative who is a local, took us here for dinner. La Claire Fontaine is clearly a restaurant focused on great cooking rather than marketing hype. Everything on the tapas plate (Serrano ham, anchovies, chorizo, cheese, olives,) was delicious and seemed to be very high quality. All of our entrees were excellent, Paella, Arroz Negro, and a broiled mussel dish. The local white wine was quite enjoyable and the Tourron Glace dessert sublime.
The location, only a block or so off the main drag, makes for a nice spot for a peaceful, unhurried meal. The chef/owner, a charming lady and veteran professional is still quite passionate about cooking. Excellent cooking and good value by Collioure standards. Highly recommended.
