Take your camera...and save money on postcards; a great view, although the narrow one lane road is bit scary.

Thank you for your visit and your comments.
We know that the road is difficult, but the Mayor of Collioure, responsible for highways , does nothing. It's.

“Worth the Hike”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

impressive view of Collioure from the fort and the displays were quite informative. The fort itself is also in great condition and most impressive. The trail is not well marked and one can drive, but hiking up was most rewarding

“Another classic Vauban........”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

The Fort was built by the Emperor Charles V, between 1538 and 1552.
It's star- shape, was a design by a famous military architect Vauban.
It has been renovated to a splendid example of defensive fort.
Fort Saint Elme stands as a geatway to French Catalonia between Port Vendres and Collioure. It offers the best panoramic view of one of the most beautifull towns which is Collioure. At the fort you will find a wery well done exibit of period armor and weapons. For a nominal fee, it offers guided tours in English and French.

Superbly renovated where needed. Great views especially to north. Displays of armory & furnishings with historical commentary posted on walls etc. as explanations plus explanatory detail of coats-of-arms etc. not expensive to visit but worth taking the walk up the hill!!!!
