“If you are in Collioure - a must”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Don't mess with the over priced Michelin starred places, this is just as good and much cheaper. The amuse bouche, a garlicky tapenade, is fabulous. Had a variety of tapas - prawns, mussels, chorzio, calamari, etc. all excellent. Had the tuna for a main course and it was outstanding. The two sides were fabulous as well - Lima beans and pumpkin. Lots of wines by the glass, we had a rose' from roussillon which was very good for 5 euros a glass. Deserts were tremendous, I had the creme Catalan and my wife had the chocolate tort. We also had coffee and tea. Total with tip: 91 Euro's

“Superb food”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant last week. The owner obviously really cares about food, and when we ordered the tuna steak he discussed passionately about the merits of having it pink, but offered to cook it as we wanted. As we like it pink, it was perfect for us, with a subtle taste. It came with a carrot puree with spices, delicious, and lovely beans and mushrooms. Each thing was deliciously flavoured. We didn't order a starter as they brought us little pieces of toast with tapenade when we sat down, - lovely. We shared a huge pistachio mille feuille for dessert, - have never seen anything like this before. Not over priced, - slightly dearer than other restaurants but definitely a more classy tasty meal.

“Outstanding Seafood & Tapas”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

In the picturesque village of Collioure sits a tiny restaurant with Outstanding Seafood: L'Ambroisie. *Secure A Reservation!!!* Order a variety of tapas, one after the other or many at once. Huge grilled shrimp. Scallops. Ceviche. Local Serrano Hams. Pair it all with a chilled bottle of fragrant rose wine. Mmmm! Save room for dessert ;-)

“Perfect experience”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

This was our third vacation in Collioure and one of the reasons coming here is to have some nice dining. At our first evening we came accross l'Ambroisie and had a small meal since we were t\not very hungry. It was a nice experience and we decided to come back. we booked a table for the last eveing and had a fantastic meal. The service is good, but in English and French for foreigners, The food was absolutely lovely, both in the way it is presented and in taste. A good wine recommondation on the top and the evening is perfect.

“Good food with some originality”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Collioure is crammed full of restaurants- most of which are fairly second rate. Those that are slightly better tend to offer very predictable dishes, so our discovery of L'Ambroisie refreshed our tastebuds! They offer a good range of tapas all of excellent quality and just that bit different- around 7 euros -and for us generous portion sizes. You could just have a selection of these if you wish, which would not make it a terribly expensive meal out. You can also have a classic entrée followed by main course. We ate there twice during our stay and each time had seafood- beautifully cooked squid, gambas and scallops, garnished imaginatively with a wonderful array of different vegetables. These were round 23 euros but typical ir the area. The restaurant itself is tiny, so most tables are situated on the terrace. It can be slightly exposed on windy days! The staff were very friendly, service was quick and professional. There was a good choice of local wines and the staff helped with recommendations. Only full bottles of wine were available or by the glass. We have been to Collioure many times and eaten in a number of restaurants there. And we can honestly say that this is the best we've found so far for quality, originality ( compared to what else is on offer for a comparable price) service and value for money.
