Casa Pairal
Ranked #3 of 16 Hotels in Collioure

We are just back from a week in Languedoc Roussillon, we spent 5 nights at the Casa Pairal.
The first 3 nights we had a ground floor room (no other rooms were available) and we can confirm what has already been written by other reviewers: the room was small, smelt of damp and needed refurbishing.
We moved up on the second floor for the two remaining nights, the room was much bigger and nicer, but still very old fashioned and in need of refurbishment.
The main pro of the hotel is the location, right in the centre of Collioure. It is also nice to have a pool (quite small) and the garden is a nice place to relax. Overall not a great hotel at all, we will not be back.

Yes it's a bit pricey, but this is Collioure. Even though it's part of a chain, it does retain an individual atmosphere and charm, especially welcome in this always-busy resort. There is no restaurant, hardly an impediment, but they do want €11 for breakfast so save €5 and go to a cafe round the corner. Parking is another €12, but is a Godsend. Service, staff, free Wi-fi are all fine. Why previous critics mark it down just for the fact of where it is, I don't know, and it is well-lit (all you have to do is turn on the lights) and room 23, the one above the main entrance facing the harbour, at least, is not damp nor smelly. The hotel is a chilled-out oasis - in the middle of the town.
The service was extremly efficient & friendly, the (family) room we had booked was not "grand" as such, but a good size, spotlessly clear, we didn't find it either dark or musty - as some reviewers have claimed - & had everything you needed + the bathroom was new, surprisingly large and all the fixtures were of a high quality. We stepped out of our room each morning and walked the few steps to breakfast under the palms - which was delightful. We found the breakfast pretty good - a typical continental buffet, offering rolls, croissants, boiled eggs, cereal, pastries - though I guess if you were looking for an English fry-up (in that heat???)you'd be out of luck.

We will be going again!

We spent only one night at the hotel at the end of our trip to Barcelona and Sw France. Yes the place is hard to find - take a map of the town with you and if you have difficulties call the hotel. We were lost and the hotel guy came into the street to direct us and show us where to go. The hotel gardens and pool are very impressive and tranquil and the hotel is right in the centre of Collioure. We have 2 children and they jumped straight in the pool before going out in the evening, where everything was on the doorstep. This hotel definitely ticked all the boxes for us.

Booked 2 rooms for my wife and I and our 2 daughters. Both rooms were
on the ground floor off the courtyard. They were both dark and our double was very small. Our daughters, on the other hand, was a very large twin although still dark (We did pay more for their room)
The pool and courtyard was fantastic.

The only downside was the difficulty finding the place late at night. In the end we stopped in the public car park and phoned them.
We were right by the alley down to the front door. The receptionist was straight out to us and walked in front as we drove round to their
car park.

Pros: Hotel is centrally located in Collioure - you practically step out the door and into the downtown area. It's also very quiet and the staff are quite friendly and helpful. There is an inner courtyard with a pool which seems charmingly situated but my wife and I were not there long enough to spend time in the pool. They have a private parking area which is convenient, once you find it.

Cons: The hotel was quite difficult to find by car as there is very little signage to follow (although admittedly I didn't have a detailed map of Collioure). The room itself felt oddly damp, as has been noted several times by others here - was this because we were so close to the sea perhaps? I could also smell smoke very clearly in the room even though we had asked for a non-smoker's room. The room was fairly dark and the hallway outside was not kept lighted - given the narrow staircase, it was a bit of a treacherous climb up to the room at night until you found the light switch. On top of everything, the room was fairly expensive, even though we were travelling during the fall.

Overall, I can't complain too much about the place, except that we would have preferred it to be a bit cheaper. I suspect the location is its prime selling point, but I'm not sure it was quite worth the added expense, not to mention the aggravation of trying to find the hotel in the first place.
