“Charming b&b with lovely hosts”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

Spending only one night in Carcassonne, we had a great experience at this b&b. Isabelle & Nicolas have a beautiful home and were warm, kind hosts. The full breakfast was excellent with homemade baked goods & jams, french pancakes, yogurt, fresh baguettes with cheeses-- delicious start to the day. The b&b is in a great location and we enjoyed our leisure walk to the medieval castle & 'la cite'.

Isabelle & Nicola are excellent hosts from the moment you arrive you are made to feel at home. The bedroom was spotless and cleaned daily. Breakfast is outstanding homemade jams, pastries, cakes & brioche etc. You arrive as a guest and leave a friend. We will definitely be returning and will recommend to family & friends.

Stayed here for 2 nights in Sept 2012. The exterior of the property had a me a little worried until we got through the front door which reveals a beautiful home with large, tastefully decorated and furnished rooms. The hosts are very welcoming and gave us the best welcome we had in our 2 weeks in France, providing details on local amenities and attractions together with a free map of the city. The breakfast was stunning - all home cooked with lots of variety and a full explanation of what was on offer each morning. If I go to Carcasonne again - I would not hestitate in staying with Isabel and Nicholas, they made our stay very pleasant indeed.

An excellent B&B. Nicolas and Isabella are great hosts, very friendly, helpful, and speak very good English. Location is good, on a main road with free parking (on the right side). Opposite is the entrance to Bastide St Louis the 'modern' shopping area which at the far end has the railway station and the canal du midi, about 10-15 mins walk. The jewel in Carcassonne, the Cite Medievale, is a good 20-25 mins walk with a steady climb at the end. Nicolas and Isabella's home is beautiful. Our room (yellow) was fine, good size, comfortable bed and lots of storage space. The only negative aspect of our 3night stay was the ensuite which is quite cramped, too dark with only one small light over the sink, and a shower which necessitates great care not to flood the floor as there is no curtain. That aside, we had a great stay. Breakfasts eaten outside by the pool, weather permitting, were superb. Isabella's home made yoghurts, pastries, cakes, jams etc... are delicious. The enclosed patio/pool area is an idyllic space to relax in after a day exploring the medieval city. After 2 days in the old and new parts Carcassonne, including a relaxing cruise on the canal, we followed Nicolas's advice and drove to L'Astours, one of the Cathar castles in the area about 30 mins drive away. What a fabulous place, stunning scenery, yes a fair bit of climbing from the information centre, but so wll worth the effort. We were lucky and with clear blue skies saw it at its best. It certainly has inspired us to return and explore the other Cathar castles in the area. So, overall we very strongly recommend Le 45, particularly for the friendliness, enthusiasm and sincerity of Nicolas and Isabella.

Nicholas and Isobel are charming people with a beautiful townhouse which they share with their guests. Breakfast is far superior to the bland hotel continentals you can get as homemade jams and pastries sit alongside bread and cheeses, with cracking coffee to set you up for the day.

Located well for the Old City (20 min walk, 5 min drive) or New Town (<10 min to main square) it is a great base for exploring the City.

Stayed there for two nights and loved the tranquility of the place. It offers a great refuge from the bustle and hoards visiting the old Cite. Breakfast was taken outside and virtually everything is home made - small cakes, jams and the like.

Nicholas and his wife are very welcoming and invited me to join them for a glass of the local Pay d'Aude red wine. They certainly know their restaurants if you want to try good local food. Their recommendations were faultless - particularly the local Cassualet dish.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would not hesitate to stay their again. A great insight into traditional France and its food.

Room Tip: They only let out two rooms. The one on the front - first floor - is very spacious and traffic is no...

I have stayed in many B&Bs and hotels in France and this is by far one of the best ones. The owners speak English, they give you good information about Carcassonne, restaurants etc, B&B is situated within walking distance from old and new town and there is plenty of parking places just outside B&B. Rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. Wifi works. Breakfast is yummy and serving it in the garden is nice touch. I would have stayed there longer than just one night!
