There is clearly a trained chef at the back of this restaurant as the food was very much michelin style fine dining, however the room is dismal and not the place to go for a special occasion or romantic meal. The owner and his waiting staff are friendly but over formal for my taste.

Welcome friendly, starters were excellent, prawns foam etc, yummy flavours, mains not a success for any of us. Good help with wine and excellent local choices made. Price probably a bit high. Decor is deep red in that Chinese restaurant sort of way. Not the experience we expected from a Michelin star restaurant.

Good food, Terrible service.
It is the third time we have visited Ambrosia and the food was as always very good. However the service is terrible. All your drinks you have to pour yourself, bread is given like in a prison - once per meal. Your empty plates are left on the table until the new dish is coming...and that may take a while, as the number of waiters is decreasing every year. The worst came when we asked to change the table and were told that it is impossible despite of two similar tables being available. We were told that these are reserved and when we suggested that our table can be reused for that purpose they said that they would have to change the table cloth and this is not possible. So we had to leave. Were they sorry or did they express any apologies - not a bit.

I cannot understand why 1-star Michelin restaurant is marked here as gastropub.

We had lunch and dinner there in two consecutive days and tried mostly all the things in menu. It was one of the best dining experiences. Don't go for the cheapest menu (for 29 euro) - it's good, but not such interesting as others, just add 10 euros and it would be fois gras for entree and fish with mushrooms plus other nice things which accompany the dinner (pre-entree, pre-desert and etc.)

The place is 10 km from Carcassonne, but it's definitely worth to go there than stay in a over-priced restaurant for tourists in the center.

By the way, since the restaurant got the first Michelin star they didn't rise prices and keep them as it was before.
