Hostess was delightful! Could not do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. This is my second visit and I will return again! Typically french but our host is fluent in english. Less than a 5 min walk onto carcassonne centre and 15 min walk to La Cite. Rooms were spacious and have anything you could ever need and very very clean! House is positioned right on the canal du midi with scenic views and walks. It is the perfect holiday desination and not too touristy! Less than 10 min drive from Carcassonne aiport! 10/10!

“home in france”
Reviewed July 26, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I am in love with the premises known as Canal Cottage on Route Minervois, Carcasonne. It has ample space inside and is well furnished with all the little extras that make the difference between a holiday accommodation and feeling at home. It has a gorgeous terrace and a lovely little table and chairs outside the front to watch the world go by , or if you were as lucky as me watching the Tour De France!. It was a spectacle and will be always in my memory. I also had the good fortune to be there for Bastille day and it was truly amazing and I will definetly return to France and Carcassonne to witness this epic show. As for the hosts of Canal Cottage, I have gained a friend for life , but apart from this nothing was too much trouble for Eileen and her daughter Jannika. We saw quite a bit of the area and hired bikes, cycled along the canal which was well worth doing and has inspired me and I now look forward to retiring in this area. All the food and restaurants in the area serve excellent food and are all within walking distance. If you prefer the 'petit train'. can be taken from the Chemin square and for E3 return to le cite.In any case this accommodation is perfect for a trip. I stayed two weeks and I honestly did not want to leave!! Eileen has thought of everything to enhance your stay so please do yourself a massive favour and treat yourself to some canal views , fantastic weather and a stay at Canal Cottage.

“Perfect accommodation in ideal location”
Reviewed July 8, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Lovely welcome from Eileen and much appreciated meal and bubbly! Location of the cottage is perfect for enjoying the Canal and accessing all parts of the City. Perfectly placed for the railway station allowing ease of access to other towns and spots along the Canal du Midi. We particularly enjoyed visiting Limoux and Lac Cavayere. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place in Carcassonne and we will definitely stay again should we return to the area.

“Wow Amazing”
Reviewed October 30, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

This is a fantastic place to base yourself and explore beautiful Carcassonne and the surrounding areas. Eileen, the owner, gave us an amazing welcome and looked after us so well and offered us lots of great advice during our stay. Incredible value for money considering the situation right by the canal and the facilities that are offered at this property. It has a lovely balcony to enjoy a glass of wine, original French furnishings in every room and our bed was so comfortable. The kitchen too is really well fitted out with washing machine, microwave oven, hob to cook on etc . However the highlight has to be the sense of history in this lovely French canal cottage. It is only a 5 - 10 min stroll along the canal bank to the town. If you want an original French property that oozes charm then this is the place to stay. Can't recommend it highly enough....we will be back!

“Ideal base to explore the area”

If you have a car and want a good base to explore the area, Canal Cottage is an ideal place to make your home. If on ‘foot’ then walking to the Bastide or Citie are an easy walk and the station is close by if you want to travel further afield.
The cottage is all on one level and sits on the road just across from the Canal Midi, the kitchen is fairly basic in equipment, but the furnishings, towels and bed linens which are provided are of good quality. The balcony is a pleasant place to sit, although we found it somewhat out of the sun, but ideal during the heat of the summer as it offered shade. If you want to watch the world go by then you can sit across from the cottage on the tow path of the Canal. Eileen, who lives in an apartment below the ‘cottage’, is a most welcoming and accommodating host, eager to please and made sure we wanted for nothing.
As for things to do, other than the attractions of Carcassonne, a walk down the tow path to the series of 3 locks further up the canal are a great way to spend a few hours, walking and watching the boat crews struggle with ropes in the locks. Drive out to the Chateau Auzias at Paretlongue, a few minuits drive from the Leclerc supermaket for a tour of the vineyards and winery. Of course the Cathar castles are a must, particularly Montsegur; villages of Mirepoix and Lagrasse; also Rennes-le-Chateau.

“Good Place to Stay”
Reviewed July 1, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

10 minutes walk from centre of town - easy access to shops and restaurants and markets.

Good clean roomy apartment, very helpful owner keen to ensure that we were comfortable and weren't needing anything.

Gigantic bed in main bedroom had a very comfy mattress.

Shower and bathroom were excellent. Lots of room in the shower, ( some other places crammed the shower into an impossibly small space)

Far far better than some of the other places we have stayed in.

Regards

Bill
