“Hotel du Chateau - an oasis in Carcassone!”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

This hotel isn't cheap - but the rooms are great and service excellent.

Stayed here twice, 2009 and 2013. 2009 in main hotel, lovely room.
In 2013 we stayed in the pool rooms, beautiful romantic spaces with a lot more room and straight into pool - on a hot Carcassonne afternoon, that is a blessing you really do wish for as you walk back up the hill from a great lunch or walk in town :)

Room Tip: Choose the pool rooms.

As we unintentionally got to carcassone the day before the tour de france passed through the city, it was pretty hard to find a room in the city center.

After five or six failed tries, we found the les chetaux hotel right outside the la cite city walls, great location, but the price was unbelievebly high. We were tired and desperate for a room so we took it.

Unfortunatelly, the only advantage in the hotel is its location. And the friendly recepionist. Here are the negatives-

1. The hotel design is confusing and hard to manage. We had trouble finding our room, and after we did - we needed to find the recepionist in order to show us where was the other room.
2. Two out of the three of us had trouble understanding how the shower works. It took us too long to figure out how to use these too smart room
Facilities.
3. The parking of the car cost extra money above the unjustified cost we paid for the room, which did not inclde breakfast. They did let us use the parking after check out though.

Seems like this hotel tried too hard to be smart and decorated, but mainly achieved my disscomfort and feeling stupid for calling them
So many times. A room at a hotel should be simple, comfortable to use and easy to find. Not alone at these prices.

If youre looking for sophistication and decoration and willing to pay for it, this is the place for you. If youre just looking for a spot to sleep in the center of town, comfy and pretty, this will be way more then what you need.

Important to mention again the friendly recepionists.

I will not come back to this hotel.

Cher Monsieur,

Really nice hotel on the edge of the medieval walls. We stayed in room 12 which was a deluxe room with great views, especially at night.

They have two fat lazy dogs that sit about the hotel all day but they were friendly.

The bathroom has walls of glass so you can see from the bedroom and the toilet door at the rear of the bathroom is also patterned glass - not something I was overly keen on!

Can't comment on the breakfast but I think it would have been good
The pool area was nice with a phone to call drinks orders through to the bar.

I've marked them down one notch for service as we had to wait around for 20 minutes
to get a drink on the Friday night.

Amazing service, nothing was any trouble at all for the staff.
Room was everything you could want, and tastefully decorated.
Breakfast was both generous in terms of volume and variety.
Everything was fresh and mostly locally sourced.
The location couldn't be any better, it's directly opposite the main gates to the old city.
Overall a 10 out of 10

My wife and I chose this hotel for its location and its boutique nature and we were not disappointed.
The hotel is right outside the castle walls, so it takes no time to get there for a visit. The hotel appears to be a family-run business and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
We were given a room on the lower level and it was very comfortable, quiet and had great facilities. The only negative is that, being at ground level and with no blackout curtains, we felt that we needed to close the shutters for privacy and this entailed opening the window and reaching outside, but this was a minor inconvenience.
We had the breakfast which is of very good quality, plenty of it and it is served promptly by the staff. The hotel does not have a kitchen, so do not provide lunch or dinner options, but with the castle restaurants so close, this is not a problem.

Room Tip: The rooms downstairs are very quiet.

Clean. Fine breakfast. Great location. Priced well due to the season (spring) and location It is within two hundred meters of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Cité de Carcassonne. To quote the UNESCO 1997 citation, the Cité is “an excellent example of a medieval fortified town whose massive defenses were constructed on walls dating from Late Antiquity.”

What a great hotel. Lovely location, lovely swimming pool. Room very chic... and hotel within walking distance to the city centre. Would not hesitate to recommend and will return . Just a stones throw from the city wall entrance and certainly deserves its 4 star rating.
