“Can't wait to return next Summer!”
Reviewed October 28, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

First of all, I am a seasoned traveller and would choose a self-contained apartment over a hotel any day. Always one to do a bit of research beforehand, I checked the hotel situ out of curiosity and the local Ibis seemed to be the cheapest at 60 Euros for a dinky double room. Why am I talking about this and not Teilia's apartment? Well, because this flat is everything a budget hotel is not!
From the very beginning, Tielia's communications were top notch. The directions from the bus stop at the train station (a short 5 euro trip from the airport to the town) were simple and accurate with it being a 10 minute walk in a straight line to Place Carnot. Tielia is a warm, inviting, cheery lady who obviously takes pride in her apartment as it's clean, well turned out, tres French, with many original additions from the artwork in the living room to the furniture. She explained the oven was not connected anymore, but who goes on holiday to cook a roast!? The kitchen was otherwise fully kitted out and she even had fresh milk, bread and a courtesy bottle of vin rouge waiting for me. Now that's class! The flat also comes with a good, fast wifi connection.
The flat may not have sprawling panoramic views (if you want that, I guess your looking to add at least £100 to your holiday for starters) but for the price, this is easily the best located and hip flat I've rented. Its perfectly placed for local bars and eateries. Fresh bread at your front door, the beautiful Place adjacent to the flat, 10 mins to the canal and train station, 20 mins walk to the Cite. I want to live here!
This is a perfect flat for a solo traveller, a couple or even a party of 3 or 4 if you want to use it simply as a crash pad while taking in Carcassonne and the surrounding countryside.
My deposit was returned without any problems and I look forward to renting the apartment again next Summer for the Carcassonne festival season.

“Central location and good value for money.”

Great communication with Tielia throughout the booking process. No problems finding the flat, and we were met there with the keys and a quick guide to the facilities. The accommodation was clean and tidy and perfectly well furnished, the wi-fi being an added bonus. We certainly didn't find the lack of an oven to be a disadvantage, and found the kitchen to be otherwise well equipped. Place Carnot is surrounded by cafes and shops, and is also the location of several food markets each week (and a wine festival in the week we stayed there). It was great to stroll 2 minutes every morning to buy fresh bread - and a few minutes further takes you to the railway station and boat trips on the Canal Du Midi. A longer walk takes you over the bridge and up the hill to the medieval castle; well worth the climb for the view.
Overall we would happily stay there again, and would recommend the flat for couples - you do need to be able to climb three flights of stairs, but this helps to compensate for the croissants!

“Great vale, great location”

I know Carcassonne quite well and knew that the location was excellent on Place Carnot. The apartment is clean, neat tidy, well furnished with traditional French furniture and well equipped. We would have no hesitation at stopping there again or recommending it to others. One note is the stairs are quite steep and the apartment is on the third floor.

“Disappointment”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

To start with the positives. The booking process was straightforward and Tielia was very helpful in supplying directions and details about how to find the apartment and the best places to park. She met us at the apartment to hand over the keys and show us round. It was a little disconcerting as most of this entailed her giving us details of what did not or might not work properly – including not using the main light switch in the bedroom as this would turn off the internet router. Tielia also told us that the oven was ‘decommissioned’ because using it tended to blow the electricity circuits, but once we said that we might want to use this she was able to supply us with one of the knobs to make the oven work, and with an explanation of which switches to use should the circuits trip as a result.

The apartment is basic and sparsely furnished. A small entrance room has a sofa which is apparently capable of converting into a bed and a small dining table and two chairs. The bedroom is off this room and has a double bed, plus a unit with shelves and a rail for hanging clothes – there is no hanging space for clothes longer than a shirt, in fact men’s shirts trail on the ground slightly. The kitchen has a hob and oven, a microwave and toaster. There is a cupboard with enough plates, mugs and glasses for two people, plus a drawer with cutlery. There were other cupboards with pots and pans but we did not use these. There is a small shower cubicle with a basin and a separate toilet. There are windows in the apartment but the view from these is either onto the window of the neighbouring apartment or onto a wall, and the apartment as a result is quite gloomy.

The location of the apartment is its strength, being able to walk straight out into Place Carnot is an obvious advantage and there is a small Carrefour supermarket almost next door and a wide range of places to eat and drink in the square and surrounding streets. However we found it too basic and managed only four nights there before deciding to relocate to a B&B closer to the old Cite.

Once we returned home we had a seemingly friendly email exchange with Tielia confirming that she had received the keys safely (we had left these in her post box) and thanking us for leaving the apartment clean and tidy. In one email she did ask if we had had any problems with the toilet seat, which we misunderstood as concern that everything had been OK for our stay, and we were able to confirm to her that everything had been fine. We had to ask Tielia for the security deposit to be returned as this had not been forthcoming by the Thursday of the week following our return home (on Saturday). We were very disappointed to get an email from PayPal confirming the return of the deposit, with a message from Tielia to say that she had deducted £25 for alleged damage to the toilet seat. The deduction had not been mentioned in Tielia’s emails, and in our opinion is completely unfounded, as the toilet seat was left in exactly the same state as we found it and was in no way damaged or broken. The deposit took a further three days to appear on the credit card statement, well over a week after our return.

Management Response
Oct 21, 2013
Unfortunately equally disappointing guests. They booked our accomodation which is clearly illustrated in the listing. They did not mention any problems at all, during or after the booking. They damaged the bed, stained the floor tiles & bedlinen with wine and food, as mentioned broke the toilet seat. Generally disrepected the accomodation.

We make every effort to cater to our clients requests and needs, feedback from our previous clientelle hopefully reflects the actual quality of service and the accomodation.

We have been very fortuante with our clients, we hope to welcome more visitors who appreciate Ciel Bleu for the qualities it has rather that dismissing it for the luxuries it does not claim to have.

“Excellent value for money & great location”
Reviewed September 20, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This was just what we wanted, central location within the Bastide Saint Louis with all local cafe/restaurants in walking distance especially Chez Felix & The Celt, a friendly Irish pub just one minute from the doorstep as was the Carrefour shop for all your essential needs. We visited The Cite twice & had a boat trip on Canal du Midi and with the added bonus of local information one evening we found a restaurant with a rock band playing into the late evening. The apartment was clean & had all we needed; the only adverse thing about it was the climb of 3 flights of stairs to get back home at the end of the day - and to get there before the lights went off !
