We've had a house near Carcassonne for over 6 years and have tried most, if not all, of the fine restaurants to be found in these parts. So when we were introduced to this new arrival we were keen but not too excited - mistake!
This man can cook! I know Chef's background is 3 Star Michelin restaurants (and we know Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester, Waterside, The Square etc.) but it was so refreshing to find such delicacy and imagination here in a part of France that prides itself on robust cuisine with the freshest of ingredients. Every ingredient for both our meals (yes, it was so good the first time we went back for lunch today, two weeks later!) was of the freshest tasting and, in the main, from within a few kilometres of the kitchens - the tuna came from only a little further away!
The decor (and therefore the atmosphere) is certainly modern; hardly medievel Cité, but warm interesting and inviting. The staff, especially the Maitre D'. were excellent - attentive but not intrusive and although we all speak french were extremely fluent in english!
The Menu du Marché at 29€ (including a glass of wine) is a real deal although there are 2 more 'gastro' offerings we intend to try shortly! The wine list is predominantly local and, knowing a few of the wines, well priced.
All in all a great addition to the area and one of the best around! Merci beaucoup!
