Ideally located 5 minutes from Narbonne Gate, the main entrance to medieval walled citadel. Modern relatively compact (but OK) room with very comfortable bed and powerful shower/bath. Welcoming staff and relaxed atmosphere (even with two large dogs and a cat in evidence in reception, which for me added to the charm but some may not like it). Although I had read other reviews and knew about it, the fact that you are droppped at adjacent Hotel du Chateau to check in and then have to carry your bags down some steps and across the road is a slight negative. Having said this I don't think it's worth paying nearly double just to be in the Hotel du Chateau. Free wi-fi everywhere is a bonus.

Room Tip: Try and get a garden room (Champetre), say rooms 31 or 32 as these have a small outdoor seating area...

Hotel Montmorency is the less luxurious sibling of a hotel across the street. It is a great value, and it's close proximity to La Cite', the chateau/walled city, makes it a perfect place to stay. Our room was a bit small, but clean and comfortable. We were on the ground floor and so had access to chairs and a a table in the garden. It was a perfect place for breakfast. Breakfast at the main hotel is available, and we did go there for morning coffee. The walk to La Cite' is less than ten minutes, so we toured there during the day, and strolled back there in the evening for dinner. There is a good selection of places there for lunch and dinner. The rest of Carcassonne is a 10-15 minute walk away, and a beautiful walk indeed. The hotel staff was helpful with advice and arranged for a taxi on the day we left. The basset hound, Eliot, and the other pooch, were cute and friendly (at the main hotel) as a reviewer noted. If one is a jogger, the route up the hill and around La Cite' is magnificent. The Montmorency is a nice, welcoming place. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: We can only speak to the room we had. The upper floors had small balconies that overlooked the road...

This was a great find directly across from Cacassonne. This is a complex of a few hotels that all have the same check in. To greet you are the chubbiest Chocolate Lab and Bassett Hound I've ever had the privilege to pet. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they arranged a reservation at a nice restaurant our last night. The rooms are very comfortable.

My wife and I stayed here because we got a good three-night deal via Ryanair but the choice could not have been better; right across the road from the medieval city, close to the coach stop for the airport shuttle and sharing facilities with the posher hotel opposite, the Montmerency is perfectly situated for the kind of short break we were on.

The room was, as they say, bijou, but it was well-appointed enough and, to our absolute delight, had French doors that opened onto a garden, dappled with sunlight, sheltered by a hedge and overhung by the boughs of a cherry tree. It was a wee bit early for a BBQ, but that would have been a possibility.

The grander Hotel du Chateau is right across the road and the owners operate both that hotel and the Montmerency. Guests eat at the larger hotel in the bar, which is open all day for refreshments. Breakfast was the kind of thing you expect in a French hotel; it was fresh, varied and plentiful. During the days we sometimes popped in for afternoon tea. Other reviews will make mention of the dogs, which wander in and out and follow the owner around like, well, dogs. Some find this canine familiarity undesirable but we enjoyed these big, floppy, slobbery dogs with their big doggy grins and waggy tails.

Three days is long enough to stay in Carcassonne; we well and truly 'did' the Cite and then we walked the 30 minutes or so down to the Canal du Midi where we rented bikes for a trip down the towpath. L'Hotel Montmerency was a real treat; it's not five star luxury but it's a star of a place where we were made welcome by intelligent and considerate staff. We loved it!

This hote
l is effectively the annexe across the street of the more costly Hotel du Chateau. There are no dedicated staff on site but guests enjoy the use of the sister hotel's pool, bar and restaurant. A good base for exploring this UNESCO heritage site on foot for those without a car.

We came here quite late on a Sunday afternoon, looking for a twin room. Receptionist was charming and helpful. The room was small but cosy, and we were grateful as it was a cold, rainy night (late April!) You can use the facilities of the grander Hotel Chateau just next door, which is delightful but a bit out of our price range. Next morning we had a massive problem with our hire car, and the receptionist spent at least half an hour making phone calls to Hertz on our behalf and brought us an emergency cup of tea in the foyer at 7.30 am! Very grateful and wont forget her kind help.

Lovely room (rm 26) ground floor and big enough to accommodate 3 adults. You also have views of the cite walls from our little patio area - unfortunately the weather was not nice enough for us to enjoy the outside area.
There's no reception but you have a security code to get in. Reception can be found in the main hotel 'Hotel du Chateau' which is literally just across the road. Staff were lovely all spoke good English (phew!) as our school French was limited (however we did try!)
The owners love their pets - beautiful lab and Bassett albeit a bit on the porky side!! (always found sleeping in the reception area in their basket). Mimi the cat usually rested on the laptop (for warmth) - bless! It was unusually cold when we went.
Lovely outside seated area where you can see the old Medieval Cite walls.
The bar was always open when we came back for a nightcap after dining out at one of the numerous restaurants.
Would definitely come back and stay at this hotel again as you really cannot beat the location.
However we had 2 gripes - 1) the bedroom was severely lacking in mirrors. One little round one in the bathroom just is not enough. We all agreed there really needed to be another in the main bedroom area - a 3/4 or full length mirror would be ideal, but even just another on a wall somewhere in the main room would have been better than nothing. 2) The room was hot and the air conditioning remote control was missing so we were unable to switch it on. When reading the information pack in the room it said that the remote was only made available when the hotel decides it is hot weather (!?) 3 star or not I am not sure if this is what I would call true customer service. Perhaps if we had asked the main reception they would have given us the remote (we didn't so I don't know) - we left a window open in the bathroom though I am not sure how secure this was as we were on the ground floor.
One of my friends had a massage at the spa which she really enjoyed. Pool area very small (however it was only 9 degrees when we were there so hardly a problem for us).

Other than those couple of things we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: There are some VERY brightly coloured rooms. We saw one that was all bright tangerine which I would...
