We booked the tour through Carcassonne tourist office, they were very helpful and they made it very easy for us. When we met Jean Michel in his comfy minibus we were the only couple aboard. A lovely personal journey.
Jean Michel is a lovely person, funny and very knowledgeable about the region and it's wines.
We tasted and learned about some very fine wine and passed an enjoyable couple of hours in good company. I'd definitely recommend Jean Michel's tours. You won't be disappointed.

Our tours were with Jean-Michel, who has recently taken over the business from Antoine and who speaks excellent English. I went to Lastours castle on one afternoon, we travelled as a couple to Mirepoix, Montségur and Chateau du Rennes on another day, then to Termes and Lagrasse on a third day. Entrance fees and refreshments are not included but are generally quite reasonable. Jean-Michel is a knowledgable and interesting guide who obviously loves the local area and all it involves. He was entertaining and enthusiastic throughout and was very able to answer all of our questions. He did not accompany us on the long steep walks to the castles, but this was fine as we wanted to explore independently and he did lend me his walking staff. Two of the tours ran over the allotted time as we were enjoying the days so much and we appreciated Jean-Michel’s flexibility in this. He also took us for an ad hoc wine-tasting session on one of the routes and allowed us to choose where we wanted to have lunch. We really enjoyed all of the tours.

We were in Carcasonne just before the holiday season opened so we were unsure whether any of the guided tours were running. The only car rental depots are at the airport so we tried Sun-Tour after seeing TripAdvisor reviews. We're so glad we did. Antoine gave us a truly personal service in his minibus to Minervois, the Cathar castles and the stunning Grottos. He finished our afternoon tour in the wine co-op for a tasting. Tip: Don't fill in the form on his website, give him a call and he'll tell you what you and he can do together and give you options on times.

Antoine: If you are reading this, we loved eating the wild asparagus that evening!

Antoine picked us up close to our apartment and we joined 2 other people for the tour of the Cathar Castles ending in Rennes Le Chateau. I can only endorse the positive comments made by others regarding Antoine's knowledge/humour and his desire to engage with each of his guests without in any way giving a lecture. Some of the walks are tough going and my father found them a bit tiring but at no time was he made to feel that he was holding things up . This was appreciated.. We had a knowledgeable and entertaining guide, a marvellous lunch and we left with a bit of the Cathar region in our hearts

Antoine picked me up from the hotel and gave a small group of us a tour of some major sites: Mirepoix a lovely town, the Cathar castle Montsegur, Le Puivert Castle (featured in the film the Ninth Gate), and Rennes-Le-Chateau, around which was based the book The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail. I believe that many other tours are available, but I was particularly interested in the Cathar Castles, which are spectacular. Montsegur did not disappoint, and is absolutely stunning. Antoine was a great guide who is very talkative and friendly, and the whole experience was very enjoyable. He created a good atmosphere for the day.

If you want a memorable day out, tailored to your tastes, with an affable and knowledgeable host who possesses a wicked sense of humour then Sun Tours is for you. I hate to utilise the over-used word ‘boutique’ but this indeed is a ‘boutique experience’ and in that sense leaves the larger more formulaic tours for dust. Be that very fine, grape-growing Languedoc dust.
Antoine; owner, driver and raconteur extraordinaire was our host for nearly 7 hours. He put up with our ribbing about his website (a “work in progress”), about the rugby prowess of our national team (we are Kiwis!) and our desire to taste local wine, a lot of local wine…
We started the day with a drive up and up and then more up into the mountains behind Carcassonne, to the famous Cathar castles. A quick stop for much needed coffee and then we set off on foot again upwards to explore ‘those castles’. Ok you need a bit of fitness for this bit, and it pays not to do it with a hangover but the views are stupendous. The thought of people living up there in winter and fighting for their respective bits of dirt, or rock was humbling indeed.
So we ticked off the cultural and into-nature part of the day and had therefore earned our next stop; lunch with Antoine at one of his favourite spots on the Canal du Midi. Excellent food, lots of shared travel stories, which got bigger and bigger as the wine disappeared (don't worry, our host was tea-total, responsible chap)
The last few hours of the day saw wine tasting at a local chateau where we learned more about this local industry than anything we had read prior to the trip. We finished with a peu plus du vin at a wine co-op and a slurp of some very fresh, salty oysters.
It was a wonderful day out with a very funny man who has great knowledge of the area and its history. Mercy beaucoup Antoine!

Had only four days in Carcassonne - Antoine ensured that we experienced the very best Carcassonne and its surroundings had to offer.
Antoine was the perfect host - a great conversationalist and extremely knowledgeable in terms of history, culture, politics and society. He tailored the two days of touring to suit our requirements perfectly at a very reasonable price making the holiday even more enjoyable.
Would definitely recommend Antoine from Sun-Tours to any one holidaying in Carcassonne!

Thanks again Antoine,
Helen & Majella

We did a day tour with Antoine with the highlight a climb up to Montsegur. Well-structured day with plenty of interest. I had read up a bit on Montsegur but Antoine added local insight. Most enjoyable.

I booked for us to go to Lastours and Montsegur with Antione last year, he also does airport transfers, our flight was delayed and we wondered if Antoine would be there, he was, and such a pleasant man to, he dropped us at our apartment and we made arrangements to meet up for our tour, he said that as it was going to be very hot that maybe Montsegur was not a good place to go, we are glad we took his advice, he took us to Lastours, and he is very knowledgable about everything, we managed to climb to the top which was worth it, when we got down Antoine booked us in for lunch , and then afterwards he took us to Saissac and then on to Chateau Auzias, so really we got to enjoy much more. Thank you Antoine, you were the best guide ever, very friendly we feel like we have known you forever, we hope to see you again, and maybe get to see Montsegur, but we will take your advice always.

You know you are in for a good morning when Antoine says hello, smiles and says he needs a coffee as he has three children at home. And so it proved. We found Antoine via his booklet and he found a slot to take myself, husband and son wine tasting. We visited three sites in all and enjoyed the different experiences. There was no pressure to buy any wine from Antoine but with such good tasting and prices we couldn't resist shipping to home. Antoine is not just a driver ,you feel as you have known him for ages as he is happy to talk about your interests and interjects with a fantastic knowledge of the local area as you drive along. His van is comfortable and we all felt safe on the French roads. Antoine dropped us off at the destination of our choice. And so our day ended with a kis for myself and a warm handshake for my husband and son. As Antoine drove away we all said what tour could we do if we visit the area in the future.
