“Another wonderful few weeks in the sun- everything that we wanted it to be!”
Reviewed October 24, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at Domaine du Renne for four weeks in July and August 2014, excited to be returning again after previous holidays there; and yet again we weren't disappointed!

The owner, Hal, provides a fantastic combination of great accommodation, peace in a beautiful, natural environment, and a welcoming atmosphere. The large pool was once again used every day to cool off in the 80 degrees+ heat, while we loved walking through the local vineyards or making the short journey to the local town of Limoux or to the many beautiful villages nearby with their markets, architecture, cafes and restaurants. As I cycle, it also made a great base from which to ride out to explore the countryside- hurtling past fields of sunflowers in the early morning sunshine made this 48-year-old pretend I was headed for Tour de France glory!

Hal had made several improvements to the property for 2014- new sunloungers by the pool, a new cooker and hob, a plentiful supply of new bathroom and pool towels, and a coffee percolator. When this is added to comfortable bedroom and lounge furniture, a gas barbecue, British TV(!) and free Wi-Fi, it really meant that we felt that we could relax immediately. Also provided, inclusive, were many of those kitchen essentials which can lead to added expense (and would often end up being left behind on leaving) just when you'd rather spend your money on local wines! So, there was foil, cling film, olive oil, salt, pepper, tea, coffee and sugar all provided- it's typical of Hal, as he did everything to make sure that our holiday was everything that we wanted it to be.

Thanks again, Hal and Louise, for a special few weeks. And to Milo and Matilda for providing splendid entertainment!

And, of course, we've booked again for 2015...

“Good gite - outstanding host”

Reviewers all remark on the good location and facilities at Domaine du Renne and I wouldn't disagree with a word of that. Indeed the equipment level here is probably the best we've experienced in many years of gite visits. What sets Domaine du Renne apart from the rest however is Hal, the owner who, apart from being a convivial host, is the most honourable man to do business with. We had to cut our visit short due to a sad family event which was not Hal's problem and I sought nothing from him but he was concerned to compensate us for the lost holiday, taking active steps to take the loss himself. This was not expected of him and shows that Hal truely is a gentleman and the most honourable owner you will ever be lucky enough to deal with.

“We can't wait for Sept 2015 when we are booked to return.”
Reviewed October 8, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We have spent holidays at du Renne for around ten years, on our own, with friends, also with relatives. Our most recent stay was for four weeks in Sept. '14. It was probably our best holiday there to date.
The fully equipped, comfortable accommodation has been recently upgraded and the pool area is a real bonus. Once the food shopping is done, the owner provides all you need for an enjoyable, relaxing holiday.

“An idyllic Gites set in idyllic unspoilt France”
Reviewed October 5, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Hal & Louise's attention to detail makes makes these Gites an incredible destination. The spectacular views of the Southern Pyrenees while sitting by the beautifully maintained pool make for a very relaxing stay. The still clear nights allow for star filled nights on the terrace surrounded by vineyards. We only just began investigating all the walks we could do direct from the door and enjoyed trying to track the prints of the wild boar that live in the area. The nearby markets are always a bounty of irristable local produce and picnicking on the terrace is a simple pleasure. There is so much to discover in this beautiful part of France, but it will mean leaving Domaine du Renne, you may decide you have all you need right there for a relaxing and inspiring holiday.

“Lovely setting in the middle of vineyards with attention to detail”
Reviewed October 4, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

There are two gites side by side, one two bedroomed, the other with a single bedroom : they share a private securely guarded pool. The owner lives on the property but higher up the hill and is always accessible for any request or problem. The two gites are very well equipped and have basics like salt, pepper, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, etc.provided as well as a welcome pack that includes a bottle of wine. The sheltered patios outside each gite face south onto a vineyard with a distant view of the Pyrenees. Limoux is 5-6 kms.away with excellent supermarkets and good eating facilities in the Place de la Republique. There are vineyards within easy driving distance that sell wines direct and the Cathar country is close by.

“Outstanding host & accommodation”
Reviewed October 1, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Where do I start, the accommodation is comfortable, clean, every detail attended to but it is the host who is outstanding. Arriving by car in the evening, we had not managed to source a supermarket en route to stock up, however, within minutes of arriving let alone being introduced, Hal and my husband were hot wheeling it to the nearest supermarket ( in a lovely car) and arrived with minutes to spare before closing time. Hal and his wonderful dogs could not be better hosts. The pool is clean, the gite well stocked, the scenery beautiful as is the surrounding area. All in all a top class holiday, I am sure we shall be returning in the future, perhaps on an earlier flight. Thanks Hal (& Matilda and Milo) for sharing your piece of France with us.

“Perfect -”
Reviewed August 23, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We stayed here for a week in June and desperately needed a place to relax . Domaine du Renne was the perfect choice. Flight from Bristol to Toulouse, then 100 kms drive - easy.

A debacle at the car hire office made us late leaving the airport .We then needed to buy some food for breakfast , we found the only supermarket en route closing its shutters as we approached the doors ! Hal , the English owner of the gite, saved the day by giving us a bottle of wine on arrival then disappeared back to his house and returned with croissants, milk, tea, jam for our breakfast. - for which we were very grateful.
The sun shone and we had a lovely week, pottering around deserted hillside towns, people watching by the square in Limoux, sightseeing in Carcassonne. Breakfast on our little terrace overlooking vineyards, lunch outside and BBQ's in the evening . The swimming pool was very welcome after a hot day's sightseeing and was the perfect temperature in the early evening sun.
Hal recommended a local vineyard to visit - we did and we loved Chateau Guilhem - family run, organic and stunning wines. So much so that we are buying their wines and have been invited to their harvest and lunch at the end of September .

We loved our holiday and wish we could have stayed longer. Hal was the perfect host and we had the added bonus of having Milo visit us every morning .
