We chose the gite because of its proximity to all Carcassonne offers, while also providing parking for our car. We weren’t disappointed. We could park the car and walk everywhere. The gite is great, well appointed, comfy bed, lovely courtyard to enjoy that wine and cheese in the late afternoon. Julianne wasn’t there during our stay, but her directions to locate the gite were faultless, and the check in/out seamless. Julianne was communicative via sms and happily agreed to a delayed checkout, much appreciated by us.
I chose this accomodation for its proximity to the cite and price and we were delighted to find a well equipped , spotlessly clean property in a very tranquil location. Julianne the host was very friendly and made our stay comfortable. The gites garden outlooks a meadow ,next to a stream and is close to a lovely park and river. Wine, bread and cheese on arrival was a welcome touch. The gite is close to the town and medieval cite , both wonderful to explore without the need for a car. Can't recommend this destination and particularly this accomodation highly enough - much better than a hotel.
A lovely small gite - perfect for the two of us. Easy walking distance to La Cite and the Ville-Basse. Dream views up to the ramparts from the road. Julienne the owner was away but her daughter looked after us perfectly. The fridge was stocked with essentials (THANK YOU) and there are large hyper markets 10 mins drive away. If you don't have a car the closest shops are only a 5-10 minute walk and the same for some scrumptious restaurants.
The property itself was as described and perfectly adequate for us as a mature couple who simply wanted a place to self cater and to be able to walk into the surrounding area. The instructions provided were very accurate to guide us to the property, and do not be put off by what appears to be a private road. Do not be afraid of the dogs in the neighbouring property who bark as you walk by, but they seem to be harmless. The property is in easy walking distance of the Medieval City and other areas of interest too. We parked the car at the start of the week and didn't use it for the time we were there.

The really strong point of this gîte is its location in the Quartier de L'ile, between the centre of Carcassonne (20 minutes walk) and the citadel, La Cité (10 minutes walk). L'ile is a mixture of parkland and cultivated plots around the small number of houses located on this quiet, secluded island in the River Aude.
With private parking, the gîte is an ideal base for exploring the wonderful Pays Cathare - full of abbeys, castles and medieval villages set amidst vineyards in beautiful countryside between the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire. We found it was easy to get wherever we wanted without having to drive through Carcassonne itself, which can get congested at busy times.
For basic daily needs, there is a surprisingly wide variety of decent local shops within easy walking distance, an excellent pharmacy, and local bars, cafes and restaurants. There are also LeClerc and Carrefour hypermarkets 10 minutes drive away at the ZI Pont Rouge, and a Geant closer to hand - which we never visited. On Saturday morning, there is a wonderful market selling fresh local produce in Place Carnot - just follow the crowds.
The gîte itself is located on the ground floor of the owners' house, with its own entrance at the side by the small patio. The bathroom is fully modern, as is the kitchen area within the spacious main room: with a good oven and induction hob, microwave, and fridge with a good freezer compartment, but no washing machine or dishwasher. The bathroom and bedroom are located at opposite ends of the main living room and separate from it. We found the bed was very comfortable.
While we were staying, Julianne was away, and so was unable to help when we ran into problems with the TV/DVD system. However, with good broadband and our trusty laptop we had radio via the internet and could watch DVDs. Julianne thoughtfully provides some books and DVDs for her guests, so we only missed out on the delights of French TV.
The very helpful tourist office in the town centre provided lots of excellent information on places to visit, with useful price reductions if you buy their passport. Thanks to our hire car, we were able to visit quite a few of them, and also to explore the beautiful countryside. We took the guided tour of La Cité. It is crammed full of restaurants - take your pick.
We really loved the area, loved Carcassonne, and hope to return soon.

Julianne our host was lovely and welcoming.
The gite is as it states on the website, basic clean value for money, but it has everything you would need.
Julianne gave us lots of info about the area, places to see etc, bicyles are there if you want to take a cycle along canal de midi.
Walking back every night great views of the city ln all its glory,
Julianne even brought our cases to the train station later in the day
so we could see more of Toulouse without them on our last day.

This is the place for a peaceful, comfortable stay whilst only being a 10 minute walk from the amazing La Cite or the main town. Gite has everything you need including bikes and the fresh food (& wine) was a great welcome on arrival. Julieann was great, helpful but not intrusive.
Carcassonne is amazing, beautiful, sunny and there is so much to see and do that 5 days just wasn't enough. Lots of cafes, restaurants and bars and the local Cassoulet should not be missed.
We had a great holiday and will certainly be back!!
