“Good location for Carcassonne”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of an organised tour. Our room was adequate with tea/coffee making facilities, a good sized bathroom, very limited wardrobe space and no drawer space only open wall shelves. A good location for the castle it only being a few minutes walk away but on the outskirts of the main town (it took us about 35 minutes to walk to the station and canal where there are boat trips) but it is a pleasant walk. Breakfast buffet had a very large selection to choose from (unfortunately on our last morning another tour group had breakfast before us and many things had not been replenished). A nice outside seating area to use during the day and evening. Evening meal was ok but only one option which may not suit everyone (if you are booking this independently the meal choice is good)
.No problem getting code for WiFi and reception was good.

Great little hotel which doesn't feel like it belonged to a large hotel group. An individual hotel which is well located (5 mins walk from La Cite) and most room views face La Cite! Lovely patio / terrace to sit out in the late afternoon sunshine. Experienced probably the nicest continental / organic range of breakfast in ages. This hotel was great and the view from hotel room was probably the best ever.

From our arrival there have been many shortcomings with our stay.

Firstly there not enough linen for 3 people. Staff were too busy to bring it up to our room.

We instantly had Wifi Issues and were told it was our devices and not the hotel.

There is no iron included in the room.

Breakfast was ridiculous. An antiquated toaster slow cooked our toast for 5 mins whilst the line to get toast grew larger and larger. There were no forks on the table dirty plates everywhere. Food was average at best. Bacon was all stuck together. It seems like this needs a big overhaul.

I give credit where it's due. Here it goes to the staff who are quite obviously over worked and spread to thinly. They did the best job they could to service our stay!

It just seems as though this is very poorly a very poorly managed.

Great location both for visiting Cite and Bastide. Rooms small but well appointed and linen changed frequently. Bedroom staff efficient and friendly. Not so the downstairs staff. On arrival we were greeted with an abrupt "name?", and given our room keys (which failed as had been programmed for the wrong room)., Breakfasts were excellent with plenty of variety both hot and cold BUT the attitude of some members of waiting staff was distinctly hostile. It is very apparent that some of them are not happy dealing with UK visitors, a problem that needs to be addressed as a good proportion of guests there during our stay were from UK.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden get more sun

Stayed for 3 nights from 21st Sept. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the medieval city where there are plenty of touristy shops and nice restaurants to choose from. (Brasserie du Donjon and Au Four Saint Louis we would recommend).

Staff were friendly. Could have done with some dedicated bar staff as there is a nice area to sit in for a drink or two at the end of an evening but not easy to get service.

We had standard rooms, okay size, modern decor, clean and great walk in shower.

Overall a pretty good stay. We paid €143 per night.

Frankly I'm surprised one can find a hotel with decent parking that is this close to the old city but our tour group managed it and ours was one of 19 cars!

The hotel is in a great location and had all we could have hoped for in our one night stay.

The rooms are a good size and had everything we have come to expect of the Mercure group. A shame it was too cold to try the outdoor swimming pool.

The hotel is located 2 minutes walk from the entrance to the Citadel. The cafes, restaurants and especially the history associated with the town are truly special. The rooms in the hotel are very large, very clean and very well provided. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant is excellent more American/UK than French. It's a shame the staff in the restaurant don't go on similar US/UK customer service courses - it's France what should we expect!!
