Lobby - French doors to gardens, lovely wood, comfortable and welcoming

Room - Gorgeous room - we had a room that faced the garden and was peaceful and quiet. The ceilings are high, the bed is comfortable, the room was clean and the air was fresh. The bathroom is huge and has both a bathtub and shower (all marble). The toilettries are fancy. They give chocolate, which my husband loved more than any chocolate he has ever had. The one downside is that the air conditioning was turned off and although the temperature was cool, it was a bit humid. They brought us a fan and had several people help make the room comfortable.

People - very professional and helpful - they assist you with luggage and getting to your car, they help with food recommendations

Pool - very pretty in a well-manicured garden in a medieval setting - unbeatable but not heated so is really only useful in warmer weather

Food - didn't try food at the hotel

Other - the major reason I highly recommend staying here is to have Carcassone to yourself when you want it. We took a night walk around the walls and it was the most amazing part of the trip. Also, from the free parking area, a shuttle takes you and your luggage and it is so easy to get to Carcassone.

Room Tip: Get a garden side room Ask if the A/C is on before going

forget people saying this place is like Disney,it's amazing and we would go back which as fussy guests is saying something. The cite is crowded in season but the hotel is an oasis of calm.On arrival we got taken to the hotel from our car by a buggy which was fun and we were upgraded to a room with a terrace which was superb. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was very comfortable and the view amazing. Breakfast in the dining room to mellow jazz was very enjoyable with a great choice.
We took the hotel trip on The Canal du Midi which was very special and well worth the money with our own private butler!
The outdoor pool isn't very big or warm (supposedly heated) but a nice area to relax. It was disappointing that in September the outdoor terrace which is delightful wasn't serviced for light meals.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are quieter.

We booked this on a bed only basis having noted that if you booked two nights, trip advisor could upgrade you to a B&B rate free of charge. Dont believe it, we tried but the hotel said they knew nothing of this offer, but I note it is still on the tripadvisor web site. The hotel itself is excellent once you work out how to get into the old city and then onto the special parking area for hotel guests. Here your bags are loaded onto a clapped out small car, you are then driven over the cobbles and through gateways to your hotel and your bags are delivered to your room. Due to the expense we did not eat at the hotel. The room was a good size with a large separate bathroom and toilet and the windows overlooked the church.

It's a funny old building - the wood-panelled lobby morphs into a wood-panelled reception area morphs into a wood-panelled bar, etc. Our room was a suite of very odd design - three or four monks cells woven into one, I guess - and quite a trek away from the lobby. Then there's all the hassle with finding the car park and getting luggage to your room. But for sure Carcassonne is breath-taking, and to be in the middle of it very special - though now it gets millions of visitors every season it's struggling to retain its old-world charm. The hotel's food (and this is France, of course, so one's expectations are high) was ordinaire - and the prices were high, very high.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and very special. The hotel itself is a most beautiful building, complemented by stunning decor and very friendly and efficient staff. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the A La Carte menu and the food was wonderful. We asked the sommellier, Baptiste, to recommend a wine and his choices perfectly complemented the meal. Breakfast was lovely and service was excellent as you would expect in a 5 star hotel. The bar was very nice and welcoming. Lovely that the visit started with a complementary glass of Blanquette, lovely! Beautiful hotel with stunning gardens in a a magical town, can't wait to return.

We booked this as an exceptional treat for ourselves, a birthday and our friends we had come to visit us in France, slightly delayed honeymoonish. We had two nights which was plenty to fully explore Carcassonne walled city where the hotel is located. We loved the hotel and for us it did live up to its five star rating. The staff where friendly and we had a nice surprise on check in with a voucher for a glass each off the local sparkling wine Limoux which I prefer to Champagne and would recommend that you look out for it. The history of this hotel and its setting is its USP and for that was worth every penny . We did not eat in the hotel so no comment on that, but I do have to say 28 Euros per head for breakfast is well possibly a tad pricey, there are plenty of good restaurants within the city walls and bars etc. So to sum up we had a great time and not crowded as post peak tourist if you do want a special break in a place with more history than l can shake a stick at look for the two night deals and go for it.PS for the best deals off season and book well in advance like 6 months.'
