As awful as it sounds, my husband and I are totally antisocial when we go away and so the thought of going on an organised tour was pretty terrifying .. fancy voluteering to spend a day of your long awaited holiday trapped in a minibus with a bunch of strangers!! well, our love of wine and lack of hire car tipped the balance and we succumbed to this - our inaugral group tour. As we mentioned in the title .. what a really great surprise the day was. Wendy was prompt, friendly and had such a great enthusiasm and knowledge that she made us forget that this was supposed to be something that we 'were not going to enjoy' and quickly we were taking in the views, understanding the landscape and how it contributed to the various types of wine. Following this was a great tour of a vineyard, tasting, talking and laughing. On the way to the afternoons setting we stopped off for half an hour at a local market and timed that perfectly to take us through to lunch in a fantastic old school house, with homemade wholesome food and more wine. Next, we quickly crossed the road for our next wine tour, more laughing, tasting and talking. On the way home we stopped off in a tiny little village where we all got out for a leg stretch and walk off some of our lunch. Everyone then managed to stay awake on the drive home - but it was a struggle - as the day had been long, filled with content, packed with information and most importantly was totally great and a huge surprise. I am not sure that we are now going to become fans of the group tour as we cannot imagine that this one was anything other than a 'one off', but at least it has shown us the art of the possible. So as much as it shocks us to admit it, we are now officially reccomending a tour!!
