This place is perfect, look no further. The gite itself is beautiful, really nicely done but keeping its original French charm. The tiered garden is perfect for lounging all day and enjoying the views of the cité.

I have never met such a hospitable owner, she organized our babysitter and introduced us with a box of toys in arm as well, left copious amounts of food ready for us, and even offered to call a cab for me!

The two rooms were turned into doubles and a child bed put in our room, easily fitting five and the garden is plenty big enough for friends to one around. It's a short walk up the path to the citedal or over the bridge to the town centre. Parking whilst on the road is opposite or at most around the corner.

I would urge you all to book here if you're looking to go to carcassonne.

I cannot fault this gite.

We stayed for 3 nights for a wedding in June 2013 in the Canissou. There is a huge lounge/diner, two bathrooms, two large double bedrooms (the two singles go together).

Outside is a private terrace and then a beautiful grass garden to lounge in the sun (with a cooling shower/spray) or to gaze at the lit up cite in the evening.

Location is literally 5mins walk up to the Cite, which is great. Ask in advance if you can use the garage, as it only takes one car so you don't want the other gite taking it! Otherwise you can park down at the river for free and it looks like no one ever walks there.

Finally, Christiane really couldn't do too much for us. She organised a babysitter for us for one of the nights when we had a wedding. On arrival you get a huge amount of free basic food ready for you.

I really cannot recommend enough!

This gite is an oasis of calm and we thoroughly enjoyed our 7 night stay. Madame Clotis met us on arrival and was extremely helpful with local information. The lovely wine and well stocked fridge was very much appreciated. We had no need to go out on the first evening as we had everything we needed. The house was extremely spacious and the decor was beautiful. The dishwasher and laundry facilities were very welcomeas was the free Wiifii. The medieval Cite was just a short walk away with many restaurants on offer and we were ideally placed to explore the villages further afield. We also visited Largrasse and Narbonne. As the weather was extremely cold for the first few days, the jacuzzi bath was a godsend. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit the area and who may be fed up with tired and shabby gites that seem to be the norm elsewhere.

My husband and I spent a week in this lovely Gite just outside the city walls of Carcasonne. Loads of space and well equipped - a delight to stay in. Christiane met us at the Gite (which was only 15 minutes from the airport) and gave us a tour of the property and then gave us loads of literature and tips on where to go and what to see and where to eat - brilliant. She then left us to it and we started out exploration of a really fascinating and beautiful area. Carcasonne is fab and the Gite is just a few minutes walk up into the old city (though the locals entrance as apposed to the tourist entrance!). The Gite garden is huge! On 3 terraces with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the most amazing views. It even had an electric BBQ.
A true gem of a place to stay - merci bien Christiane and next we return it will be avec bebe!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the GRAND CANISSOU - lovely!

We just did a five week tour of France staying in most locations for four nights. Most of the places we stayed at were highly rated B&Bs and they were all excellent. Staying in a gite has the advantage of being able to cook your own meals and you have more privacy than in B&Bs. We had stayed in a number of gites before but this was the best one we have ever stayed at.
The gites are located on a busy one way street and from the outside you can’t tell what either gite is like. Then, voila! You walk through the gate and into a magical garden underneath the city’s huge walls. The gardens are breath taking. Most nights we sat outside after dinner just staring up at the floodlit walls. The setting is truly unforgettable. It is also very convenient. You can be in the old town in ten minutes or the lower town in ten minutes. Everything in the gite is top of the line. We were in the larger gite and it is very spacious and well appointed. Christiane had left us all sorts of supplies, including a very nice bottle of local wine. After eating out every night for several weeks we really enjoyed being able to cook our own meals and to shop at the wonderful French markets for the local produce.
When we arrived Christiane sat down with us, gave us a great introduction to the gite and area and made sure she answered all our questions. She also gave us her phone number and encouraged us to phone or email her if we had any questions or issues. As I mentioned the gite is very upscale and everything in it is first class. My wife loved the teapot and asked Christiane where she could get one. Christiane gave her a few ideas but alas none of the local stores carried it. When we were leaving Christiane asked my wife if she had been able to find the teapot. When my wife told her she hadn’t Christiane then gave my wife her teapot. Naturally my wife wanted to pay her for it but Christiane told us it gave her so much pleasure to give it to us that it would be unkind of us to pay her. What can you do? She is a very special person and we felt lucky to have met her. It’s no wonder her gites have the highest rating possible. Our gite was ten out of ten but I’d have to give our hostess eleven out of ten.

A truly wonderful gite within a fantastic setting.
From the time we stepped off the plane when Christiane was there to meet the three of us (my wife and 17 year old daughter) to the time we had to (reluctantly) pack up again four days later for the return trip home, our short break was comfortable, relaxing and rather fantastic in all!
First impressions of the gite are deceiving, arriving as we did along an unassuming one-way street and parking up outside a small iron gate. Hmmm...Not much to look at yet! But step through the gate and up a few steps and there is holiday heaven. A beautifully appointed property (we stayed in the Mi Padre) alongside one of the loveliest gardens I have ever witnessed. And to top it all off the view from the garden toward the walls of La Cité are pretty much unparalleled.
Christiane also did us proud by stocking the larders with exceptional local food products and bread, crackers, water etc. Plus some corking (excuse pun!) local Minervois which I enjoyed so much, I had to ask where to buy more. The very next morning there was another bottle of the same waiting on the patio table.Merci bien Christine!
The whole property was immaculate, all modern and well stocked kitchen, wonderful ensuite facilities for both bedrooms and much needed air conditioning throughout - the temperature was way over 35 deg C every day!
As for Carcassonne itself? Truly lovely place. We didn't need a car as everywhere was within walking distance. The Cité, The Bastide, The Canal du Midi, the Aude river with some delightful otters swimming under the arches of the Vieux Pont....all within an easy(ish) stretch of the legs. Plenty of bars and cafes along the route to rest and replenish the lost energy too.
The Cité has all types of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. We found lunchtime eating to be more economic and more suited to what we wanted to do.
We did have one day trip. We had planned to go to Toulouse on the train, but found it quite expensive just for a few hours. Instead we took advantage of a regional rail offer allowing one-way transport for €1 to anywhere on the Carcassonne-Quillan line. We stopped off in Limoux where we had a delightful meal at a brasserie on the main square, then we visited the Musée des Automates. This is a little gem of a museum and certainly worth a detour if in the area.
However, most of the time we were happy to simply relax in the gite and enjoy the wonderful surroundings of the garden, helped along the way with THAT local Minervois.Merveilleux!!

We booked because of the 100% 5-star rating on tripadvisor and we are happy to keep it going with the same score again. The views are stunning - and the garden must have the best outlook of any cottage backyard in France.
We stayed in Grand Canissou which was sperbly furnished and with every appliance you could want - plus a very generous and unexpected welcome package of food and drinks which kept us going for some time.
It has parking and it is very modestly priced for the quality and the extra included - and on top of that, Christiane was a wonderful host, with a detailed, helpful and friendly welcoming, and attending immediately to any request we had.
If you miss this, you really on missing out omn a fabulous experience.
