“Super friendly, with good food”

This was a great find during our days in Carcassonne. Loved the proprietors and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Fantastically crazy flavors of ice cream were the coup de grace!

“Hearty regional fare at a reasonable price!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

Went here based on other reviews. We weren't let down by the cassoulet... It was the best we had in carcassone. So flavoursome. Pity the wine wasn't great, but you win some you lose some. Decent place to go for a decent quality feed.

“Definitely worth a visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

We visited this restaurant on the tripadvisor recommendations - and we weren't disappointed.
The food was lovely - we had the gaspacho (which contained a surprisingly good black olive ice cream) and the pork charcuterie for starters and the grilled lamb / chicken mushroom special for mains.
When the bill came, we were surprised at how little it had cost given the quality of the food and wine. The restaurant manager was also charming - I'd really recommend this restaurant to anyone!

“Great food”

We stayed five nights in carcasonne but ate here twice - great food - small and only one person serving but it didn't matter.
Go if you can book a table!

“Simple restaurant du quartier exceeds expectations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Nestled below the ramparts of the tourist-thronged medieval Cité in the quiet, villagey Trivalle area, Le Trivalou doesn't go all-out to pull in passing trade. There are no big menu boards banging on about authentic cassoulet (although, naturally, they serve it), and it's the kind of cosy, simply furnished, slightly old-fashioned, un-style-conscious family-run place that you used to find in the back streets of many French towns. It would be easy to walk by, but if you did you'd miss a minor treat.

The €21 dinner menu is short, uncontrived and to the point. Starters were well presented, tasty and showed imagination without straying too far from traditional bourgeois cooking - we loved our salad of petits pois with mint sorbet and our foie gras. Mains were spot on, too - a juicy, meltingly tender (and unfatty) confit de canard with a thyme sorbet, and a delicious herby sauté of spring lamb. Desserts were simple but soigné, with full marks going to the plate of three cheeses in top condition.

With a carafe of very drinkable local red, an armagnac and a coffee, the bill for two was under €70 after we'd added a well-deserved tip. Three well-executed and totally tasty courses for £30 a head is a bargain in our book. We'd recommend making a reservation, as Le Trivalou only has about 20 covers and is obviously popular, although they don't seem pushy about turning the tables, so that's probably the level of business that they're happy with.
