“Hidden in Aigues Mortes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

Perfect location, lovely charming hotel with fabulous spacious rooms. Courtyard with swimming pool. Great products in the bathroom. Spotlessly clean and the breakfast was a small sortiment but all fresh and delicious.
We loved staying here, due to the hotel being directly within the walls of Aigues Mortes we could combine total relaxation with culture. A big thankyou to David for making our stay so enjoyable.........To be highly recommende

We stayed in Villa Mazarin in June/July with our two children (4 & 11). The hotel was very nicely appointed and elegant. The pool was a welcome cool down after walking and visiting during the day. Everything was nice and comfortable. Underground parking a big bonus as street parking is impossible in Aigues Mortes.

Overall very nice. I will say this is a hotel for "quieter" sensibilities and not for rambunctious children.

On the down side, the air conditioning was more of an idea than an actuality. On the upside, if you have an top floor street side room, the ever present swallows will be zipping right by the window, which our kids thought was pretty great.

We have visited Aigues Mortes on a number of occassions and love it's character and charm and it is definatly worth staying within the walled city for an evening or two to experience the atmosphere.
You couldn't ask to stay at a more elegant, stylish Hotel that oozes charm and sophistication. Our standard room was by no means 'standard' and was an extremly comfortable room to stay in with tasteful furnishings, modern equiptment and so much space! It also had lovley views over the City which is stunning in the evening.
All of the building has been very tastefully restored , whilst retaining all of the period features and character, including a new indoor pool, and beautiful enclosed gardens.
Breakfast in the garden or Terrance is wonderful and the staff made this a very pleasant experience.
This is a fantastic hotel in a great location and I can thoroughly recommend it.

This hotel is one of our favourites in France. Elegant , stylish and understated. Our room overlooked the internal courtyard garden, very quiet and peaceful with a beautiful bathroom, extremely well-appointed with everything you could wish for. Perfect bed and air-con. David, our favourite hotel person in France, was extremely helpful and attentive after my husband had a fall injuring his hands on the gravel roadway outside the walls. All is well. Our only concern is the supper. The amuse bouche, wine, service etc were perfect but we were not enamoured by the cuisine. Whether this was our wrong choices I'm not sure but in future we will eat out in the square. A great shame because otherwise this place is heaven on earth.

A lovely hotel which we felt had almost a 'colonial' feel, situated within the walls of Aigues Mortes. Vehicle access is restricted into the city to residents and businesses, but there is secure parking at the hotel for 10 euros a night which is well worth it. Our room was large with a magnificent bed and superb ensuite. Our room overlooked the garden which meant it was also very quiet, although even with a room to the street I would not expect much noise as it is in one of the quieter side streets in the town. Having arrived just before lunch our room was not quite ready so we spent a couple of hours wandering around the town and having a leisurely lunch. The remaining afternoon we took advantage of the sunbeds on the terrace in the hotel garden, the covered pool and jacuzzi. The staff were all very helpful and the hotel and all the facilities was immaculate. We did not eat at the hotel, being there just for one night we wanted to spend time in the town.. Aigues Mortes itself is a beautiful place to stay with a great atmosphere. There is a good variety of restaurants, which we found, surprisingly, relatively inexpensive considering the number of tourists the town attracts. It was our first visit here but would love to return and would most certainly recommend this hotel.

In this part of the world there are relatively few hotels with any character, there are just too many modern blocks of chain hotels. This hotel is different, it is a converted villa and behind the simple facade there is an oasis of green and quiet in what can be a hot and frenetic tourist resort. We stayed here for 2 nights twice in June, the first time we stayed in a superior room (excellent) and the second in a standard room which was a bit basic and overlooked the street, but it wasn't a problem because Aigues Mortes isn't exactly full of traffic at night!! We ate in the restaurant on one occasion, it was fine, not haute cuisine but a very pleasant meal and reasonably priced with a good selection of good local wines. There is a garage behind the hotel but the ramp down is very steep and a problem for low sports cars like mine, fortunately I could park in the little courtyard but it could have been a problem. Excellent staff, good breakfast and a nice location. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are a little basic.

We arrived at lunchtime on Thursday and immediately parked the car in the Hotel car park (Expensive we thought until we saw the cost of parking outside the walls in the public car parks)
Our room wasn't quite ready but we wandered in search of food. No problem as there are plenty of restaurants in the walled town and nothing is very far.
We returned and were shown up to room 7 on the top floor, interesting views over the roofs of the old town and a large room overlooking the street, beautifully appointed with a king sized bed , great shower room and all facilities (Others have mentioned the Clarins toiletries and large fluffy towels so enough said).
The pool in the hotel is beautiful, under cover but open to the gardens on one side, temperature great, immaculate, and we used it every day at least twice.
having read the mixed reviews re breakfast we decided to go out. we found a most wonderful Pattisserie/ boulangere within a 3 minute walk serving what looked like most of the hotels and locals in the town so never looked back.
We found the Hotel staff courteous, helpful and friendly.
On Saturday we were going to take the car down to Le Grau du roi, but as the garage was full we didn't want to lose our place. instead we took a boat ride down from the basin just outside the walls. We were very glad we did as traffic was queuing from half a mile outside Le Grau du roi, Parking appeared to be impossible. As it was we had a very pleasant couple of hours walking around (There is an interesting market on Saturday) before catching the same boat back up the canal to Aigues Mortes and Lunch at " La Particular" which was exquisite.
As previously noted there are restaurants and bars to suit all pockets in Aigues mortes and we found 3 over the days that we were there.
Aigues Mortes is beautiful and the Villa Mazarin is a special place to stay, Not cheap but worth ever penny
The town is also very convenient for Montpelier airport (about 20 minutes)

Room Tip: We worried initially about possible noise from the street but as traffic is restricted we never fou...
